Ryan Gosling in talks to join Guillermo Del Toro's Haunted Mansion

This is the kind of pairing you never thought would happen, yet you’re happy it did. A new report says that Ryan Gosling is in talks to join Guillermo Del Toro‘s Haunted Mansion. This isn’t any ordinary backroom negotiation, Del Toro and Gosling have been actively talking to each other for the past few months.

The Wrap reports that Gosling and Del Toro have been doing a lot of hanging out lately. First, the two were spotted at Disneyland the exact ride that will inspire the adaptation – honestly, that should have been our first clue. Then they spent a few moments over at Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and the Pirates of the Caribbean. There is also a photo of them enjoying the thrilling ride Radiator Spring Racers in Carsland – now I’m thinking about Del Toro directing Cars 3 for some reason.

The Killing Joke Header - Jared Leto to play the Joker in Suicide Squad

Yesterday, we reported on the Suicide Squad cast photo that was posted on director David Ayer‘s Twitter account. While it was exciting to see everyone get together at their first read-through, plus see some new additions, Jared Leto was noticeably absent from the photo. Was it a bathroom break or was he busy doing something else? It really doesn’t matter at this point, because Ayer has posted the photo that everyone has been waiting for – so to speak. A first look at Leto as the Joker, using the infamous “The Killing Joke” cover as a reference. Hit the jump to check it out.

Disney In Depth banner

Take a glance at the Disney film and television pipeline. What do these projects have in common? Big scale, yes. But more than the high estimated costs of these ventures, the element of branding runs continuously through many of them. I explored how in recent weeks we have heard of some major announcements of upcoming movies and TV shows.

Let us look at this in even more depth as we ponder if intense branding merely represents capitalizing on well-known entities, or if this serves as a warning of a serious deficiency of ideas in Hollywood.

Leigh Whannell and Lin Shaye in Insidious

Focus Features and Blumhouse Productions’ Insidious: Chapter 3 takes a trip back in time before the events of the demons that haunted the Lambert family. Leigh Whannell makes his directorial debut replacing James Wan, who left to direct Furious 7.

Having already written and starred in the first two chapters, Whannell seemed like a natural fit to direct the third. However, in our roundtable interview the director revealed that there were some fears about coming on to a sequel that already has a deep mythology and a fanbase. He also talks about some of the difficulties of writing, directing, and acting simultaneously, the use of practical effects over CG, and meeting expectations. Hit the jump for the interview.
