Spider-Man

The search for Spider-Man may be over according to a new rumor from none other than the Latino Review. According to them Asa Butterfield (Ender’s Game) is your new webslinger. While he does look like he fits the high school profile that Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is looking for, he isn’t necessarily the target age of 15 – 16 they wanted. That being said, Butterfield’s youth should be enough to keep the audience believing that he is a high schooler.

More on this story below.

Butterfield beat out other candidates that were considered for the role which include names like Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Timothée Chalamet, and Liam James. Should Butterfield get the role, he will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War.

Now this isn’t exactly a confirmation, as Disney and Marvel have yet to announce who will play Spider-Man. But Latino Review has a more than decent track record when it comes to rumors, so there is a good chance that this could be true.

With the studio zeroing in on their lead, their next focus would be to find the right director. When last we heard, Jonathan Levine (50/50, Warm Bodies), Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite, Nacho Libre), Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect), Theodore Melfi (St. Vincent), and the team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein (Horrible Bosses 1 and 2), were all being considered.

Drew Goddard was one of the frontrunners to direct the film, but was unexplainably absent from this list. Chances are the Daredevil creator is no longer being considered to direct the film, despite being attached to write and direct the Sinister Six spinoff before Marvel and Sony decided to share Spider-Man and reboot the franchise.

No word yet on who Marvel and Sony may be considering to direct.

The still-untitled Spider-Man reboot – rumor has it the title of the film may either be The Spectacular Spider-Man or Spider-Man: The New Avenger – currently has a theatrical release date of July 28, 2017. The new Spidey is expected to make his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in Captain America: Civil War, which opens on May 6, 2016.

What do you think about Asa Butterfield as Spider-Man?
