Olympus finale time! What a strange journey for both the characters and the audience. Our Hero (es) have finally made it to Olympus, but now they need to get in and down to business.

Last week on Olympus, Medea (Sonita Henry) sacrificed herself to the witch Circe for guidance. It turned her hair gray and her voice growly. Despite this sacrifice, Oracle (Sonya Cassidy) and Hero (Tom York) argue like 10-year old girls the entire time. Daedalus (Matt Frewer) just hangs around, but seems to know more than he is saying. Hermes comes around and acts fierce, but then seems to back off when the ring is presented. They all end up in the temple of Gaia – back to basics. The key is in a kiss.

Olympus 1.13 “The Truth” review: This was definitely the freakiest episode to date. After everything they did, evil or good, to get here, was it worth it? I’m still not sure. It opens with Hero and Daedalus fighting to the death (of Daedalus) for the ring. But then it goes right back to where we left off last week – the kiss between Oracle and Hero that stops time. I wish I could get a kiss like that. Chronos appears, but instead of growling, he welcomes them to Olympus.

From there on out, the whole thing feels like an acid trip, and it definitely made this the best episode of all. In here they split apart and reunite a few times. Daedalus meets a modern day version of himself who shows him the future in the form of an airplane, and gives himself credit for it. What? I thought Hero killed him! He did, but that must have been the weird time thing, because that scene played out again later. Daedalus better not be dead. I will boycott. Medea sees her dead sons again. She is judged to damnation and falls into oblivion. That better not be the last we see of Medea. I will boycott. Hero finds Ariadne, but she has no use for him. She’s in love with Dionysus. So Hero’s whole rescue mission goes kaput. Oracle finds Gaia, Mother Earth to whom she has served so faithfully, and who basically shuts her down.

Oracle must judge Hero. Choose damnation and she will live in peace forever. Choose him and they are stuck together. He tells her to let him go. She chooses him and it really sounds like Gaia marries them. Twitchy face Hermes appears and says Hero’s mission is to kill Zeus, whom they had trapped. There’s a weird scene of shadows beating up Oracle. Zeus is half Hero (seriously, it’s his face), and half serpent. We find out Oracle’s name is Pandora and we think Hero’s name is Adam. Hero wants to free Zeus so he can kill all the other gods. They do and now I don’t know what will happen.

Syfy is pretty good at keeping their weird little shows. I’m very intrigued about what will happen in Olympus in season 2 – if there is one. No word yet.

Maybe I’ll go sacrifice a goat at an altar of Athena to get another season.

  1. I loved this episode, it had an unexpected atheistic undertone. Like, Daedalus’ future self basically saying development of the future began with the death of the Gods and the following of science. Gaia telling the Oracle that heaven is making the most of your life on earth and not what comes after. The Oracle saying that her life of devotion to the Gods was a waste. Hero telling Zeus to leave humans to govern themselves. Thinly veiled atheism…

  2. Like a low budget Prometheus with a weak script and characters who never stay in character. The development and switching of alliances needed more than 13 episodes to accomplish, with the end result being that you end up smacking your forehead at their stupidity or sit there, mouth agape, at new and contradictory revelations about themselves, their abilities, their motivations, and even their behavior.
