In 2002, acclaimed director Steven Spielberg directed Minority Report. The sci-fi actioner was set in the near future, where all murder was basically eradicated thanks to the pre-cogs, three siblings capable of seeing the murders before they took place. The film starred Tom Cruise, Max Von Sydow, Colin Farrell, and an amazing Samantha Morton, and is one of Spielberg’s most underrated films. In September, FOX is bringing the futuristic world of Minority Report to the small screen, and right on time for a panel at San Diego Comic-Con. The show takes place after the conclusion of the film, and the pre-crime division is shut down. It focuses on the now free pre-cog Dash (Stark Sands) who is discovered by cop Lara (Meagan Good). She tries to secretly and illegally use his pre-cog abilities to solve murders
CHeck out the panel, the fan reactions, and trailer videos below.
The panel features stars Meagan Good, That 70’s Show’s Wilmer Valderrama, Stark Sands and Laura Regan along with Executive Producer and showrunner Kevin Falls, Executive Producer and writer Max Borenstein, and Executive Producer Darryl Frank. Falls seems particularly excited about the show and among the topics discussed are the chemistry between Dash and Lara. Dash is childlike in the way he’s a part of the real world for the first time, and Good explains how her jokes and interactions go over his head. There’s also the duality of the two twin pre-cog brothers; the innocent Dash who wants to do the right thing and more bad boy Arthur (Nick Zano). Falls lets loose a spoiler, although it sounds more Easter Egg-ish… that in the future, The Simpsons is STILL on TV. Kudos to FOX for incorporating one of its classics into a new show. Now if we can only get more Married With Children!
In the other video, we get fan reactions from the 20-minute preview of the pilot shown at SDCC. The responses were very positive with fans liking the blend of futuristic sci-fi, with a lighter edge than the film which was definitely darker. I was interested to see that one fan in particular liked the carrying on of the pre-cogs story, rather than Tom Cruise’s John Anderton from the film.
Minority Report debuts on FOX Monday night September 21st at 9:00pm ET. The pre-cogs already know if you’re planning on skipping it… and they’ll send people… so just watch it!
Be sure to keep it here at Geeks Of Doom all week for our on-site coverage of SDCC 2015.
