SDRR Comic-Con Panel

At San Diego Comic-Con, yesterday the Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll panel got together for the first time at this huge Con as a show, and as a band, and as a family. The panel consisted of: Denis Leary, who plays aging lead singer Johnny Rock, Liz Gillies, who plays Gigi, Johnny’s surprise daughter and new lead singer of The Heathens, John Corbett, who plays guitarist, Flash, John Ales, who plays bassist, Rehab, Robert Kelly as drummer Bam-Bam, and Elaine Hendrix, who plays Ava, Johnny Rock’s longtime girlfriend and backup singer.

Check out the panel videos and some clips from the red carpet below.

Legends of Tomorrow Comic-Con

Marvel has dominated the entertainment world in the past decade with it’s MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe), including blockbusters like the Avengers films and Guardians of the Galaxy, while DC has been a distant also-ran. But this year at SDCC, DC is building serious momentum for a run at toppling Marvel on top the comics foodchain. Kind of appropriate that the middle letters of SDCC are “DC” as we saw the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice trailer, footage of the Suicide Squad, and panels for their three hit TV shows, Gotham, Arrow and The Flash… did I say three… soon to be four as Arrow and Flash characters will spinoff into DC’s Legends of Tomorrow debuting in 2016.

Check out the incredible video below.

SDCC 2015: Joss Whedon – Firefly, Buffy, Twist & The Icon Award

Joss Whedon in Avengers Age of Ultron

The only question I have is… why hasn’t Joss Whedon received every award that has ever existed in the history of awards? Saturday, he delivered his yearly sermon in Hall H (he skipped last year) AND won the Comic-Con Icon Award (the 9th of its kind). He likes to give his fans what they want – a chance to listen to him speak in that genius voice, and to ask questions about anything and everything, which he is only too happy to answer. But the most important question of the night was:

Who is his favorite character?

The answer is…

The Simpsons Animation Domination

Just to put The Simpsons in perspective; I am 33 years old. The Simpsons began its historic run on FOX in 1989, spun off from the Tracey Ullman Show when I was 7! As in starting second grade! So when my generation speaks of The Simpsons we aren’t just mentioning one of many quality shows on television. We literally grew up with these characters. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie aren’t characters; they’re our neighbors, classmates, and friends. “DOH” and “Cowabunga Dude” are parts of American history and culture. Co-creator Matt Groening and friends greeted fans at San Diego Comic-Con with a panel that discussed the future of the series as it enters it 27th (!) season, and the all-things Simpsons FXX universe.

Watch the panel videos below.

The Strain Kevin Durand Comic-Con

The Strain had their panel on the last day of San Diego Comic-Con, but don’t worry, there were plenty of fans lined up for them. FX had set up a “Survive The Strain” virtual reality experience, along with the AHS Hotel, and a TBX Forest. The panel included creator Guillermo del Toro who showed 2 tiny prologue clips to fans (one apparently involving getting fed worms – gross!), plus a gag video where Thomas Eichorst (Richard Sammel) turns his dungeon into an Air BnB, and ends up trying to put a crib/playpen together. Besides Sammel, some of the other cast members at the panel were Kevin Durand (Vasiliy Fet), Ruta Gedmintas (Dutch Velders), Miguel Gomez (Augustin ‘Gus’ Elizalde), Natalie Brown (Kelly Goodweather), David Bradley (Abraham Setrakian), and Mia Maestro (Nora Martinez).

Watch the gag video and the tweet that shows how Guillermo del Toro surprised fans below.
