Last week on Dominion, Alex (Christopher Egan), Noma (Kim Engelbrecht), and the former 8-Ball-turned human, get captured by Julian (Simon Merrells), the leader of New Delphi. Alex really wants to strike a deal because of their mutual hate of Gabriel (Carl Beukes). Julian is skeptical, but is more inclined to once Gabriel shows up for Alex, and if Alex retrieves a key for him in an 8-ball pit. Michael (Tom Wisdom) inadvertantly causes an innocent to be killed in Mallory. And Claire (Roxanne McKee) sets David (Anthony Head) up with a trained naked 8-Ball (ok really it was Arika – Shivani Ghai).

Dominion 2.3 “The Narrow Gate” review: Michael comes upon Laurel digging a grave that he soon realizes she is digging for herself. Another one of Mallory, Alabama’s fun prophet edicts is that every five years, the leader that takes confessions must kill himself/herself or the fire will go out and the 8-Balls will get in. This is not a fun town. It’s Laurel’s turn. Michael gives her an enviable kiss (worth it!) and tells her she helped him believe that “Father” is out there again, he was lost and now found, and he’s going to help his faux son (Alex). Before Laurel does the deed though, Michael bursts in and takes her place. Gabriel somehow feels this and is stricken. For about 5 heartstopping minutes, I thought he was really dead, but he burst out of his grave and revealed wings and threats to Wes (the guy that killed Harper).

The Vega storyline is a bit dull this week. Zoe escapes, Claire orders everyone to find her, she has a moment with Gates, and realizes some of her guards are on the take.

Alex agreed to go into the 8-ball pit to get Julian’s key. He is very busy in there killing 8-Balls, finding keys, curing another 8-Ball, rescuing Claire’s dad, General Riesen. This leads to a way back flashback where we see Gabriel and Michael and Lyrae and weird jars that contain angel weapons, about to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. The key that Julian needs is for one of those jars. Julian is an 8-Ball! And… he’s Lyrae!

Another solid episode. Plot moves fast, and every good guy is dark, while every bad guy has a bit of light. Did you know William Shatner is a big fan? Yeah. He live tweeted during the show last night.

Look:

Exactly what I was thinking William Shatner!

Dominion airs Thursday nights at 10pm ET on Syfy.

  1. I love the new character Gates Foley, he has a mysterious nature about him that is really compelling (plus I love that his character was listening to “Jungle” by Jamie N Commons and X Ambassadors when he was working at his desk Claire arrived with a bottle of whiskey to ask him for a favor.) The obvious sexual tension between Gates and Claire also seems like it could make for some promising plot developments.

I’m really hoping that the injection of a new prime character into the Vega storyline will help it catch up with the other two, because that is moving along kinda slowly while the others are full speed ahead.

  2. I agree, there was far more tension between Gates and Claire in 1 episode than Claire and Alex in a series.
