Game Of Thrones is lobbing out the casting news recently. On the heels of the announcement that Ian McShane has joined the cast for season 6 (in an unnamed role), comes the announcement that legendary actor, Max Von Sydow will play the Three-Eyed Raven next season, replacing Struan Rodger, who made a brief appearance in the season 4 finale, as the seer who cannot help Bran walk again, but “he will fly.”
Von Sydow has a remarkable resume, having played Jesus and Father Merrin (The Greatest Story Ever Told and The Exorcist), the Devil and Leeland Gaunt (The Soldier’s Tale and Needful Things), and appeared in other such iconic works as Dune, Dreamscape (okay – that was is iconic to me), Hannah and Her Sisters, and What Dreams May Come. He has appeared in over 150 pieces to date, and will soon be seen in Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
Max Von Sydow’s appearance coincides with the return of Bran Stark and Hodor (Isaac Hempstead Wright and Kristian Nairn). Last we saw of those two, they had finally arrived at the giant weirwood tree of Bran’s dreams, after fighting off wights, looking for answers.
Game of Thrones returns Spring of 2016.

GoT synopsis:
Summers span decades. Winters can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne continues.
It stretches from the south, where heat breeds plots, lusts and intrigues, to the vast and savage eastern lands, where a young queen raises an army. All the while, in the frozen north, an 800-foot wall of ice precariously protects the war-ravaged kingdom from the dark forces that lie beyond. Kings and queens, knights and renegades, liars, lords and honest men…all play the ‘Game of Thrones.’
An original series based on George R.R. Martin’s best-selling ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ series.
