20th Century Fox has released the very first image of Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch in the big screen adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. The film is based on the very popular video game of the same name. However, Fassbender’s character is not based on any character from the games, and was created just for the movie. The cinematic character will exist in the same world as his fellow video game characters, furthering the mystery of the rivalry between two ancient secret societies: the Assassins and the Knights Templar.

Not much else can be revealed about the film considering that production hasn’t started yet, though it has been confirmed that cameras will start rolling on Monday. Filming locations include: Malta, London, and Spain. Assassin’s Creed also stars Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Macbeth), Michael Kenneth Williams (12 Years a Slave, The Wire), and Ariane Labed (Before Midnight).
Fox has scheduled the movie for a December 21, 2016 release. It is directed by Justin Kurzel who reunites with Fassbender and Cotillard after working with them on Macbeth.
