Last week on Dominion, we went back (via flashback) to when Gabriel (Carl Beukes) was in charge of a chosen one, namely, his son David. David’s destiny was to save everyone by felling the giant Goliath, which he performed excellently, with a little angel guidance from Michael (Tom Wisdom). But something must have turned Gabriel to the dark side, and it is revealed that the king killed his son, and replaced him with an imposter he could control. All this flashbacking happened while Julian (Simon Merrells) was shock torturing the two brothers. Gabriel sacrifices himself not once, but twice, for Michael – taking all of the shock at first, and then shoving Michael through a door to freedom, when he tries to drag Gabriel with him. I love him. Julian messes with General Riesen (Alan Dale) by showing up with an 8-Ball that has the lower angel who was inside his wife Clementine. Confused? Him too. And me too. Zoe (Christina Chong) agrees to meet with Claire (Roxanne McKee), but David Whele (Anthony Head) mucks it up by ordering a secret failed hit, getting Claire in the leg, which causes a miscarriage. In a comedic, yet horrific turn (the best kind), Alex (Christopher Egan), and Noma (Kim Engelbrecht) find themselves in a huge store, filled with supplies, corpses, and 8-Balls who still think they work there… until they don’t and attack. They are dispatched of pretty quickly, but the mob of 8-Balls outside (one with a chainsaw) don’t bode too well for the plucky duo.
Dominion 2.8 “The Longest Mile Home” review: You knew Alex would somehow defeat chainsaw guy, right? But Michael swooped in and the rest ran away. They come upon a field of burnt 8-balls. What does this mean? Noma informs Michael about the weird “go east” guy, as they prepare to ride in and save Gabriel, but he is as clueless as she is. Or is he? He did mention how he’s seen that before (Mallory).
Julian decides on another tactic with Gabriel – namely, torture by drug dazed orgy. Only Gabriel imagines it with Noma, Claire, and Arika. Poor Carl Beukes. His job is so hard sometimes.
Riesen succumbs to the temptation of immortality and his love of Clementine. He is a dyad now. Will he prove as evil as Julian? I really hope the cavalry comes before Gabriel is a Julian puppet, with help from the amphora. Btw – nice job on the Riesen flashback. That guy was a dead ringer for a young Alan Dale.
William Whele (Luke Allen-Gale) is alive! He is crazier and harder, and claims to be the real chosen one. And just to one-up Alex, he says God spoke to him. Just what Vega needed – a crazy, back-from-the-dead prophet. The finale is shaping up to be completely explosive. I wonder how David will react at their inevitable confrontation?
Arika (Shivani Ghai) and David are found out. An ambush is set for Zoe’s team. Right before Arika is arrested, she leaves a little surprise for Gates (Nic Bishop). David, ever the survivor, escapes. The food tower is taken, and Zoe is captured. Poor Zoe. Who knew Claire had that in her?
The end was a series of holy s*** moments.
I cannot wait until next week.
Dominion airs Thursday nights at 10pm ET on Syfy.
