So… what did you think of the finale?
Last week on Dominion, we found out exactly when the Angel War started, way in the past – Christmas 2016, and that Gabriel (Carl Beukes) started it. AND… that Noma (Kim Engelbrecht) was on Gabriel’s side at the time. This is revealed during a knock-em-down, drag-out fight between Gabriel and Michael (Tom Wisdom). Michael is getting his angelic ass kicked by darker than usual Gabriel, until he reveals their bro Lucifer is still around and in Mallory, Alabama. In the aftermath of the Amphora illusions, everyone is self-reflective and for the most part, regretful. Except William Whele (Luke Allen-Gale). He’s a crazy killing monster, that David Whele (Anthony Head) has to put down whilst sobbing. I think he had no choice. David was finally genuinely helping Claire (Roxanne McKee), when William came in, smashed everything, and opened the gate to the 8-Balls. Arika (Shivani Ghai) seems good now, but she really just wants to go home, rescuing a little Vega girl on the way. Claire and Alex (Christopher Egan) flirt in front of Noma, as their impending 8-Ball doom approaches rapidly.
Be sure to check out the Dominion “Herald Angels” music video which matches the light Christmas ditty, “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing” with the kills from season 2. That video is below.
Dominion 2.13 “Sine Deo Nihil” review: Gabriel takes Michael to Mallory to meet The Prophet. Now, I thought The Prophet was a bad guy up until he heals Gabriel by setting him on fire. I should have known better. There is no one on this show that is all of something. The good are morally skewed, and the bad have glimpses (or more) of goodness. No one has shown this more (although revealed fairly recently) than Noma. She was in cahoots with Gabriel, tried to kill Alex as a baby, joined Michael and swore to protect Alex, and now? It certainly looks like she gave Alex up to Lucifer for a pair of pretty white wings, but we won’t know how far she will go, unless there is a season 3 (please!!!!). This seems to be all Michael’s fault though. He never destroyed Lucifer’s remains.
Alex does a tattoo blast to knock down the first wall of 8-Balls, but then is apparently too weak to do it again. Time for guns! General Riesen (Alan Dale) as angel Duma drives by. Claire goes to confront him. Her “daddy” strategy seems to work as he fights the angel within. Alas, tragedy strikes! There is a standoff with Duma holding Claire hostage. The general manages to take control back. But still, there will be no happy reunion. Claire shoots her dad, Duma shoots Claire, Noma shoots Duma and he falls out a window, and Claire dies in Alex’s arms (tears!). Don’t count Duma out though.
Julian (Simon Merrells) is back! Hooray! He narrates what is and what will be in his crazy voice. I don’t care. he is one of the most interesting characters on the show.
The last episode was an optimistic setup for season 3 (please!!). There are many unanswered questions and still much story to tell. I need to know what happens to my favorite angels and humans.
Creator (and writer of this episode), Vaun Wilmott, told TV Insider what he plans for season 3 (#RenewDominion !!!!), including the Lucifer character, Noma’s betrayal, and Alex’s path:
His mythology is that he loved mankind and wanted to help them against his father’s edict. Then the other archangels were sent to destroy him. He’ll make choices that can seem very wrong but are justified in certain ways. He’ll be a formidable adversary for everyone.
After she (Noma) tore off her wings earlier this season, her sanity was broken. In her desperation to be made whole again, she made a deal with the Lucifer. She betrayed Alex to get these magnificent wings. Even if they were from Lucifer, we decided not to make them ugly, but beautiful.
In the third season we’ll definitely see him (Alex) embrace his chosen one-ness, much more than he did this season. It’s almost like the first season was him denying the sword, the second season was him grabbing the hilt of the sword and pulling it from the stone, and the third season will be him using the sword. There will lots more cool stuff.
I only just discovered Dominion in season 2 and quickly caught up. But it has everything a sci-fi (or any other) geek could ask for: angels, monsters, dystopia, action, despair, intriguing connections, great-looking people… here’s hoping for season 3. I mean, William Shatner wants a season 3… why isn’t the order put in already?

Who would have thought that Hark The Herald would go so well with the epic kills in Dominion?
It is interesting that most angels are depicted with black wings but Lucifer, the most beautiful of the angels, had white wings and gives Noma white wings.
