The time has come once again for that most hallowed and accessible of online streaming services known as Netflix to cut a few titles from its voluminous selection of films and television shows while adding many more guaranteed to please its subscriber base.

Below you’ll find my picks for the best of Netflix’s new additions for the month of November. What you won’t find this month are a lot of movies worth recommending, but the site will be adding several new television shows exclusive to their service as well as some full seasons of programs you can probably already find on your cable package. Draw the curtains, tie up any loose ends, and keep the pizza dude on speed dial, ’cause it’s time for some hardcore binge-watching.

Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Season 1 (Premiering November 20)

The mighty Marvel Studios’ domination of online streaming and the social media trend-o-sphere looks to continue with Jessica Jones. Their second original program for Netflix is based on the comic series Alias and stars Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) as a former superhero who currently uses her amazing abilities as a private detective. Developed for television by Twilight Saga screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg, Jones also features the Marvel-ous debut of Mike Colter as badass superhero Luke Cage (soon to get his own Netflix series) and David Tennant (your favorite Doctor…admit it) as Jones’ murderous adversary Kilgrave, best known in the Marvel Universe as the Purple Man. Jessica Jones looks to be bringing some much-needed femininity and humor to this darker corner of the MCU, but like its predecessor Daredevil, the series won’t be skimping on the brutal action and excitement either.

With Bob & David (Premiering November 13)

Two decades ago, Bob Odenkirk and David Cross teamed up for the absurdly brilliant HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show with Bob & David, a weekly blast of pure, unadulterated irrelevance that delivered more uncut hilarity in a half-hour than Saturday Night Live could in an entire season. Now these giants of oddball humor are bringing their act to Netflix in the form of their new series With Bob & David, in which Odenkirk and Cross return to sketch comedy after being dishonorably discharged from the Navy SEALs. The show has some serious comedic firepower on both sides of the camera: Tim & Eric Awesome Show, Great Job stars/creators Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim serve as executive producers, Brian Posehn and Dino Stamatopoulos will both be writing and performing, and Paul F. Thompkins and Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis creator Scott Aukerman can be counted on to make appearances. Six episodes of With Bob & David have been produced. I can’t wait.

Master of None (Premiering November 6)

Netflix’s third original series to premiere in November reunites actor/comedian Aziz Ansari and Parks & Recreation co-creator Mike Schur for Master of None, which stars Ansari as an actor living in New York and carefully navigating his way through the chaos of contemporary life as a single man. Ansari has had two successful stand-up specials for Netflix and the streaming service struck comedic gold recently with the acclaimed Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Master of None looks cut from the same mold as Louie and could do just as well if enough viewers give it a shot.

Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story of Cannon Films (Premiering November 29)

From the director of the entertaining documentaries Not Quite Hollywood and Machete Maidens Unleashed, Mark Hartley turns his lens on yet another chapter in the long and lurid history of exploitation cinema. Electric Boogaloo charts the rise and fall of Cannon Films, the infamous studio that fueled theaters and video stores throughout the 1980s with all sorts of violent, insane B-dreck that made actors like Chuck Norris, Charles Bronson, and Jean-Claude Van Damme into unlikely action icons. Packed with plenty of hilariously revealing interviews with many of the stars, directors, writers, and fans that made Cannon legend, Electric Boogaloo is a non-stop delight.

The Spongebob Squarepants Movie (Premiering November 1)

If nautical nonsense be something ye wish, then you and your youngest might want to check out Nickelodeon’s most popular little porous, yellow hero in his 2004 big screen debut. Spongebob’s first movie finds him on the adventure of his crazy life trying to recover the stolen crown of King Neptune before his archenemy Plankton takes over all of Bikini Bottom forever. There’s plenty of laughs and music and the cartoon’s returning voice cast is backed up by special appearances from Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Tambor, Alec Baldwin, and a very memorable live-action cameo from David Hasselhoff. Fun for all ages rarely gets this much fun.

Among the titles to be pulled from the Netflix library at the beginning of the month are Batman & Robin, The Blues Brothers, Fargo, The Last Waltz, and the first five Saw movies.

That wraps up my choices for the best movies to watch this month on Netflix. Having a subscription is one of the best investments that someone who is rarely away from their laptop for long like myself can make. I highly recommend getting one. Come back next time for more recommendations.
