Gal Gadot will introduce Wonder Woman to the big screen in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This will mark the first time that the DC heroine has graced cinemas. She will then move on to be featured in her own titular solo film. Rumors have been going around on where (or rather when) the film is set. Early on, there was word that Wonder Woman could take place during World War I, which would contradict earlier rumors that Wonder Woman I and II would be set during World War I and II, respectively, with the final film taking place during modern times.
Now, a new rumor has popped up that seems to clarify when the film is actually taking place. According to JoBlo, Wonder Woman will precede the events — in fact, it will take place months before the events — of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. According to the site, the first solo film will also feature flashbacks to World War I. More on the story below.
Seeing as JoBlo says that this is a rumor, we should take all of this with a grain of salt. We still don’t know much about the film other than Gadot will reprise her role as the title hero, Wonder Woman; Chris Pine will play Steve Trevor; and that Patty Jenkins has replaced Michelle MacLaren as director.
Going on to the rumors, JoBlo says Wonder Woman will take place during two key time settings: World War I and modern day times. Circe and Ares will be the main villains of the film, where the two are working together to bring about World War III. At some point in time during the film, Wonder Woman will meet Steve Trevor, where she explains how she first defeated Ares during World War I. It is not clear if her story will be told through flashbacks, but the site says that a majority of the film will be set during modern day times, so don’t expect to see 50/50 WWI and modern day settings.
Since this is a shared universe, Wonder Woman does much more than serve as a prequel to Batman v Superman; in fact, JoBlo says that Batman may even appear in Wonder Woman. According to them, Ares will employ an army of beasts that are described as red or green demonic monsters with horns and wings to prevent Wonder Woman from stopping Circe, and that Batman will watching her save civilian lives during the battle. This is suspected to be a post-credit scene, but it’s purpose is to solidify that Batman has had a presence all along, and build upon the idea that Batman is recruiting heroes for the Justice League. After Wonder Woman’s battle, Batman will pull a Nick Fury, and let her know that he is aware of who she is – which would probably explain why there one of the first images we saw of the two is where Bruce Wayne gets intimately close with Diana Prince.
The site adds that the film will be deeply rooted in mythology, making Wonder Woman the Thor of the DCCU. There will also be familiar elements that Wonder Woman fans would recognize like the Invisible Jet and Paradise Island, though they are also not sure how much of those elements we will see in the actual film.
We will keep you posted as the story develops.

WONDER WOMAN is the Wonder Woman of the DCCU, not the “Thor”…….
