Yesterday saw the reveal of the title card for Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the highly anticipated prequel to the Harry Potter films (see image at top). Now comes the official first look at the film in its headlining star Eddie Redmayne on the cover of the new issue of Entertainment Weekly magazine.
Check out the first look at Redmayne in the image gallery here below!
In the film set in 1926 New York, the Academy Awarding-winning Redmayne plays the wizard Newt Scamander, a magizoologist who is cataloging numerous magical creatures. (Magizoology is the study of magical creatures.) It’s his discoveries that are compiled to create the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them required textbook at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the school in which Harry Potter and his friends attend. The Warner Bros. movie was written by Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, based on her 2001 book of the same name.
Here’s some details about this cover image via EW:
In our cover image (see the full image below), you get a first look at Scamander, his pivotal briefcase in hand, standing inside the entrance of the majestic art deco-influenced Magical Congress of the United States of America (or MACUSA), which is the American version of the Ministry of Magic that’s housed inside the Woolworth Building in the film. Coming along for the ride are Katherine Waterston (Steve Jobs), Colin Farrell (True Detective) and Samantha Morton (Minority Report).
Directed by David Yates (who helmed the last four Harry Potter movies), and starring Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, Ezra Miller, Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell, Faith Wood-Blagrove, Jenn Murray, Elizabeth Moynihan, Christine Marzano, Denis Khoroshko, Jon Voight, Gemma Chan, Carmen Ejogo, and Ron Perlman, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters in the United States on November 18, 2016. It will show in 3D, as well as the new IMAX 4K Laser format.
