Last week on Supergirl, we were formerly introduced to Maxwell Lord (Peter Facinelli), a rich genius. I can’t tell if he is a good guy or a bad one. He gets kidnapped by Reactron, Superman’s foe, who comes after Kara (Melissa Benoist) after her exclusive interview with Cat (Calista Flockhart). Kara gets in over her head, and has to be saved by her cousin, thanks to James (Mechad Brooks) calling for help. Cat throws a magazine launch party that gets crashed by Reactron, of course. But Supergirl saves the day, wih some help from Hank Henshaw (David Harewood) and the DEO. James’s ex, Lucy Lane (Jenna Dewan-Tatum) comes to work for CatCo.

Spoilers below.

Supergirl 1.4 “Livewire” recap/review: Everyone is listening to a DJ rag on Supergirl. Of course, that is the non-subtle foreshadowing of a villain about to be born – Cat calls the DJ to the carpet, demotes her to weather copter, and there’s danger. Kara goes to save her and they get struck by lightning. Livewire is born – white-haired and scary and in a coma.

James and Lucy are apparently back together. I feel like I missed something.

Kara and Alex’s mom (original Supergirl Helen Slater) comes to visit for Thanksgiving. There’s a parents flashback. We see teenage Kara take Alex flying. They are in BIG trouble when they return. There’s even more ominous knock at the door, and Hank Henshaw plus scary men are standing there.

Livewire is awake, and electric, and out to kill Cat. Supergirl saves her. I KNOW Cat knows Kara is Supergirl. It would be an insult to her intelligence and keen eye, not to know.

Tense Thanksgiving dinner – Kara wants to give thanks around the table. But Alex is drinking too much, and Eliza is disapproving. Winn (Jeremy Jordan) just wants to give thanks about Kara, but of course, James calls. He seems unhappy with Lucy, which is a shame because I do not want Jenna Dewan-Tatum to be a fleeting cast member. James and Kara do not have chemistry, but Winn and she does.

Momma Danvers to Alex: “You have always been my Supergirl.” Aww….

Very heartwarming episode, as one would expect from a Thanksgiving episode – family, tears, and such. Last week’s was better, but holiday episodes always give the warm and fuzzies. The best parts of this episode was Cat showing care about Kara’s past, and wanting to have more than sleaze in her magazine.

There was yet another reveal about Hank Henshaw that has to do with that flashback, and they unveiled what happened after they opened that door. It seems like we have our real arc of the season as far as the DEO goes.

I really think that this show should move to The CW. “Oh shut up, you mean girl,” was uttered. It’s an adorable show with enough darkness and enough angst to warrant the move. And it would be a successful one.

Supergirl airs Mondays at 8pm ET on CBS.

CBS’s synopsis:

“Livewire” — Kara’s (Melissa Benoist, center standing) Thanksgiving may be ruined when she suspects her foster mother, Dr. Danvers (Helen Slater, right), who is coming to town, disapproves of her new role as a superhero, on SUPERGIRL, Monday, Nov. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
