Wait, How Many Actors Auditioned For The Young Han Solo Spinoff?

It’s not going to be easy to find the right actor to play the role of Han Solo in the untitled young Han Solo spinoff film from The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord. Despite that overwhelming challenge to cast the right person, if anyone can do it those two can.

But how can you find someone who can be as charismatic, suave, and dashing as Han Solo? This is a massive project after all, and the character is a fan favorite amongst the Star Wars community, so it’s not like you can just make a shortlist and hope that you find the right person from said list. So Disney and Lucasfilm is going through great lengths to find the perfect actor to play the legendary smuggler, so much so that the rumored number of actors who are auditioning for the role have reached more than 2,500. Check out the full story below.

THR was the first to break the story. According to them more than 2,500 actors have met on the project or put themselves on tape, which casting director Jeanne McCarthy is currently overseeing. “This has been the easiest movie to audition for,” says an agent with a client who has auditioned. “They are seeing everyone.”

The fact that the auditions are open to pretty much everyone is the opposite of what J.J. Abrams did when he cast relative unknowns for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While the number of actors that have auditioned for the role makes it look like Disney and Lucasfilm are desperate to fill the role, the film isn’t scheduled to start shooting January 2017 for a May 25, 2018, release. More than plenty of time to find Mr. Right.

With so many people auditioning, some of the more popular names in the business are likely to pop up. 30-year-old Dave Franco (21 and 22 Jump Street), 25-year-old Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Kick-Ass, Avengers: Age of Ultron), and 28-year-old Miles Teller (Whiplash) have auditioned, as well as 20-year-old Nick Robinson (Jurassic World), 24-year-old Tony Oller (The Purge), and 18-year-old Leo Howard (Kickin’ It). Chandler Riggs, the 16-year-old star of The Walking Dead, and 30-year-old Mr. Robot star Rami Malek have also auditioned.

International actors like Hemlock Grove star Landon Liboiron, 23; and English actors Ed Westwick (Wicked City), 28; Tom Felton (Harry Potter), 28; and Joshua Sasse (Galavant), 27, among many, many others are also possible candidates.

Slightly lesser known names also include Fury‘s Logan Lerman, 23; The Fault in Our StarsAnsel Elgort, 21; and Transformers: Age of Extinction‘s Jack Reynor, 23. Small screen actors like Teen Wolf‘s Colton Haynes, 27; and Bates Motel‘s Max Thieriot, 27 have also auditioned.

There are so many actors, but the casting team wants to find “someone who looks at least a bit like a young Ford,” who can be “funny and charming as well as handle the expected action scenes.”

Who do you think is the right person for the role.
