Netflix has officially given the greenlight to new seasons for two of their original series.

The streaming service has announced that fans can expect both a second season of their Marvel series Jessica Jones starring Krysten Ritter, and also a third season of the Tina Fey produced comedy The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt starring Ellie Kemper.

Jessica Jones, which is produced by showrunner Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter) and Liz Friedman (Elementary), debuted with its first season in November, which was met with much praise. That made Netflix two for two with its original Marvel series after Daredevil became a big hit.

The second season will consist of 13 episodes, but it’s not clear when we can expect to see it released. According to Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos it all depends on The Defenders, the Avengers-like miniseries that will bring together the characters of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, as well as the other two upcoming Marvel series Luke Cage and Iron Fist.

Rosenberg has spoken in the past about a second season and whether there was time to do it before Defenders or not like Daredevil, which will return with its sophomore season on March 18th:

Now that a season two has been confirmed, they can obviously figure out if there’s time to do it before Defenders.

The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season three announcement is an interesting one as well. That show hasn’t even returned for its second season yet, set to premiere in April, so Netflix must really love what they’re seeing of it. The show was originally developed for NBC, who ultimately chose to pass on it before Netflix swooped in and picked it up for not only the first season but the upcoming second season as well.
