Last night at CinemaCon it was confirmed that the upcoming Spider-Man reboot being produced by Sony Pictures in conjunction with Marvel Studios would indeed be titled Spider-Man: Homecoming as previously suggested. Now it appears that the production is close to adding another high-profile actor to the cast.

Justin Kroll at Variety is reporting that none other than Michael Keaton is in early talks to play the film’s mystery villain, which could possibly turn out to be the winged supercriminal the Vulture if the rumors are true.

The casting of Keaton, who received his first Oscar nomination for playing an actor struggling to escape the shadow of the superhero movie franchise that made him a star in Birdman, would be a real coup for Marvel considering that it was playing the legendary DC Comics masked vigilante Batman in two films directed by Tim Burton that brought him great fame and wealth.

Tom Holland was cast as Peter Parker/Spider-Man last year and will be making his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Civil War, set to be released in less than a month. Oscar winner Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler) will be playing Peter’s beloved Aunt May. Zendaya has also been cast in the role of “Michelle”, and that’s about all we know so far of her character.

Spider-Man: Homecoming swings into theaters with a quip and a THWIP! on July 7, 2017, but be sure to catch Spidey in his first MCU appearance on May 6, 2016 when Captain America: Civil War opens here in the U.S.
