Sony Pictures has released the domestic and international trailers for Don’t Breathe, Fede Alverez‘s new horror film that centers on a group of young cat burglars who target the home of a blind man, only to find out that he isn’t as disabled as they first thought when he traps them in the house. The film stars Jane Levy (Evil Dead), Stephen Lang (Avatar), and Dylan Minnette (Goosebumps).
Check out the full trailer here below.
Don’t Breathe made its major debut at SXSW earlier this year, where audiences were completely petrified. Judging by the trailer alone, which I watched in broad daylight, it’s kind of easy to understand where they are coming from.
Levy plays Rocky, a young daughter living in a rather abusive home where her lazy parents consistently berate her and gouge her for money. The only way she can make ends meet is by breaking into other people’s houses and stealing jewelry and other valuables so that she can fence them. However, the abuse has taken its toll so when the ringleader, Money (Daniel Zovatto), hears about a score, she goes with the intent on collecting and never coming back home. They literally believe the job would be like robbing a blind man considering the home is owned by a blind man (Lang); however, he also happens to be a military vet, and he traps Rocky and Alex (Minnette) within the confines of his home and makes their escape even more impossible when he turns down the lights.
It’s a pretty good trailer all things considered. EW has the domestic trailer, and YouTube India posted the international one, both of which are embedded here below. The story of Rocky wanting to leave her life behind with her sister allows us to sympathize with her, but how are we expected to remember all of that when this delightful horror builds on tension and darkness. Those who watched it at SXSW seemed to be pleased with the results.
This wouldn’t be the first time that Alverez’s work debuted at SXSW to numerous applause. He also debuted the Evil Dead reboot at the film festival.
Produced by Sam Raimi, Don’t Breathe arrives in theaters August 26, 2016.
Here’s the plot synopsis:
A group of teens breaks into a blind man’s home thinking they’ll get away with the perfect crime. They’re wrong.
