San Diego Comic Con just finished up, and soon with it is Preacher which is completing its first season on AMC. Based on the acclaimed graphic novels by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon, and brought to you by executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Preacher has filled the summer void on AMC for The Walking Dead fans pissed off about cliffhanger endings. At SDCC, the Preacher panel was hosted by Kevin Smith and featured Ennis, Rogen, and stars Dominic Cooper (Jesse), Ruth Negga (Tulip), Joseph Gilgun (Cassidy), Graham McTavish (The Cowboy), Ian Colletti (Arseface aka Eugene).
Checks out the videos below.
In the first video, Joseph Gilgun discusses how he got into acting and it was actually a punishment for “acting out” so much as a rebellious kid. He also discusses his time spent with women, drugs, and alcohol making him possibly the living embodiment of his character Cassidy (who is a drunk, Irish vampire).
Next up we meet Ian Colletti and wow, that’s what he looks like as a normal human being. Kevin Smith calls Arseface the most popular character from the books outside of Preacher himself. Colletti said that he had no clue until he read the books, how Eugene looked, and the makeup process takes hours, covering his whole face and making it so he can’t eat. He drinks smoothies when in costume. In fact Seth Rogen reads an email he sent in 2008 to then attached director Sam Mendes (American Beauty), that he desperately wanted to play Arseface.
Garth Ennis asked about the translation from graphic novel to series and the changes made, and which were his favorites, and which he was most nervous about. He says that Preacher is in “great hands” and names and seems totally impressed by how his work transitioned through mediums.
A young fan asks about how Preacher’s success will affect other comic series being adapted. Rogen hopes the successes of Preacher will influence others to take hard-to-adapt works and try to get them in front of viewers, whether TV or movies.
Preacher just had its penultimate episode last night, and the season finale is Sunday, July 31st at 9:00pm ET on AMC.
