Crafting with Feminism
25 Girl-Powered Projects to Smash the Patriarchy

I definitely have to make a Buffy the Vampire Slayer prayer candle from page 103. And with that, I’m hooked. I am not a crafty crafter. I can do a hook rug, or do a little ceramic painting, but I’m not a glitter, special scissor, felt fabric, glue gun type of gal. But this cute little number is lighthearted fare, for the beginner to intermediate, as long as you have a silly sense of humor. One needs that when making vagina ornaments, or one of the other projects for fun fierce women in Crafting with Feminism: 25 Girl-Powered Projects to Smash the Patriarchy by Bonnie Burton.

With a forward by one of my favorite Supernatural alums, Felicia Day, who explains strong feminism with whimsy way better than I ever could, this delightful book will show you how to make:
– Superheroine Wrist Cuffs: Need ribbon, felt, ribbon, hole puncher, etc.
– A Bra Wallet (definitely making this): straight pins, satin fabric, a bra (duh!).
– Monster Week Tampon/Pad Case: Fake fur, googly eyes, glue, etc.
– Power Panties: Need panties, sequins, fabric pen, and not much more.
The book has other bonus features such as a feminist musical playlist (“One Way or Another” by Blondie), how to set up a craft day, list of feminist holidays (Galentine’s Day Feb 13th), and a page of feminist films (Persepolis).
With step by step photographs to accompany the instructions, and beautiful pics of the finished products (see image gallery below), Crafting With Feminism is a perfect book, for when you want to get your girls together to “grab life by the p***y.” Makes a great gift for adolescents (maybe older) to senior citizens.
