Warner Bros. has just released the first trailer for The LEGO Ninjago Movie that features the voice talents of Dave Franco, Justin Theroux, Jackie Chan, Olivia Munn, Fred Armisen, Abbi Jacobson, Kumail Nanjiani, Michael Peña, and Zach Woods.
With The LEGO Batman Movie hitting theaters this weekend, now it seems like a perfect time to get our first look at newest spinoff. Check out the trailer along with a poster below.
As far as trailers go, this one seems pretty basic. It reveals that Lloyd (Franco), a secret ninja is the son of the evil Garmadon (Theroux) very early on. But even though it spoils that in the trailer, it is what the film does to separate itself from The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie in more than just a title and plot elements. So it should be interesting to see how it will stand on its own two legs as opposed to riding on the coattails of its LEGO counterparts. So let’s see what WB has for us come the fall.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In this big-screen NINJAGO adventure, the battle for NINJAGO City calls to action young Master Builder Lloyd, aka the Green Ninja, along with his friends, who are all secret ninja warriors. Led by Master Wu, as wise-cracking as he is wise, they must defeat evil warlord Garmadon, The Worst Guy Ever, who also happens to be Lloyd’s dad. Pitting mech against mech and father against son, the epic showdown will test this fierce but undisciplined team of modern-day ninjas who must learn to check their egos and pull together to unleash their inner power of Spinjitzu.
Directed by Charlie Bean, with a script written by Hilary Winston, Bob Logan, and Paul Fisher, The LEGO Ninjago Movie opens in theaters on September 22, 2017. It’s produced by original LEGO Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller, as well as Dan Lin and Roy Lee.
