Practical Folks Drunk Star Wars

Debuting back in 2014 the Practical Folks are James Graessle, Joel Arnold, James A. Janisse, and Chelsea Rebecca. They built a steady following on YouTube with their Game of Thrones videos and continued that with their Drunk Disney series; their Beauty and the Beast one was covered here. Last week the world celebrated Star Wars Day on May the 4th (be with you). If you like Star Wars, watching Star Wars movies with friends, and drinking (!), then the Practical Folks are definitely worth your time. Akin to Mystery Science Theater 3000, the Practical Folks watch movies and mock them with clever quips and the occasional DRINK ATTACK. For the Star Wars prequels the binge them all in one day with cocktails and alcoholic beverages mixed in along the way.

Check out the hilarity below.

Dressed in costume, Graessle as Obi-Wan, Arnold as Sebulba; (but looking more like the tank driver from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), Janisse as Darth Maul, and poor Rebecca in a dopey Jar Jar Binks hat, the crew sets to task of shredding Episode 1 on everything from the obvious; Jake Lloyd, the blatant racism, frickin Jar Jar… but then add in some interesting insight about the total lack of character building, like you don’t even really know any of the character names except for Obi-Wan. After watching their Episode 1 and 2 videos back to back, their mocking of Amidala’s writing is astute as she goes from a kick ass leader in Ep 1 and a love sick puppy who barely speaks in Ep 2. They do a phenomenal job of showing that really the only way the prequels should ever be viewed is drunk and with friends because otherwise, it’s just torture.

While their Episode 1 video is funny, Episode 2 one had me rolling. They hilariously destroy the awful romance between Anakin (Hayden Christensen) and Amidala (Natalie Portman), as well as as keep a great running gag about Obi-Wan (Ewan McGregor) and his drinking problem. When they tear down Hayden’s Tusken Raider slaughter, I was in tears. They continually bring up the cartoonish backgrounds and obvious green screens, but I think my favorite moment was the naming of the clones on Kamino. And for the record James Janisse, I too always felt Taun We was sexy as heck.

Practical Folks have 40,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 6-million views. Keep an eye out for part 3 in their Drunk Star Wars series as they finish their self-imposed torture by watching Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith… NOOOOOOO!
