Before you get too excited, something should be made clear. Netflix has not yet officially announced a season three for Stranger Things. Which is no great surprise considering that the highly anticipated second season is still a couple of months away.
That said, according to the Duffer brothers, Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer, a third season is already a sure thing. And a fourth season looks likely as well.
See what the show’s creators had to say about future seasons below.
According to Vulture, who spoke to the brothers recently, the Duffer brothers say a season three is indeed happening sometime after the upcoming season two. A bigger season two in which they “wanted to push things a bit.”
But if you’re hoping the show will be around for a long time, don’t get your hopes up. The Duffer brothers believe Stranger Things will run for only a couple more seasons, saying “We’re thinking it will be a four-season thing and then out.”
Why so few seasons in the current plans? It simply wouldn’t make much sense for the characters: “I don’t know if we can justify something bad happening to them once a year. They’re going to have to get the fuck out of this town! It’s ridiculous!”
This doesn’t necessarily mean there’s only going to be four total seasons of course. Again, Netflix hasn’t even officially announced a season three yet. Let’s see how season two goes first. By the time we get to season four, if that is in the cards, perhaps the brothers will have ideas for more seasons.
Season two of Stranger Things is set to arrive on Netflix on October 27th. You can find much more on the show by clicking right here, including a trailer, TV spot, and other peeks at the new season.
