We’ve reached the penultimate episode for Syfy’s grindhouse summer series Blood Drive. That begs the question, WHY THE **** HASN’T THIS SHOW BEEN RENEWED YET?!?! Sorry… Blood Drive has quickly become a cult favorite akin to video nasty-style gore-tastic films it so often pays homage to. Its fanbase on social media are called #Bleeders.

Last week, we finally got to see goody-two-shoes cop Arthur Bailey (Alan Ritchson) snap. Thinking Grace (Christina Ochoa) was killed in the battle dome, he became the Primo, and singlehandedly murdered everyone left in the pit much to the applause of Slink (Colin Cunningham) and the execs at Heart Enterprises. We also watched in awe as Karma (Alex McGregor) emerged from the skin of Old Man Heart to surprise Grace. While all that mayhem and debauchery was taking place, Aki (Marama Corlett) and Christopher (Thomas Dominique) broke into Heart, overriding their systems, allowing them to move unfettered onward to help Arthur. If you couldn’t tell by this week’s title, this episode will likely be an homage to the notorious series of tapes that emerged in the 1980s…

Check out my review of this week’s Blood Drive here below.

Arthur is now a full-fledged celebrity, as the Primo. “From here on out, every girl you bone will be pretending it’s me.” “I know who I am Grace, and I’m f*cking fabulous!” Alan Ritchson is on FIRE! Slink finally has his Primo, a wheelchair granny kicking badass… until Christopher finally finds him and they bro-hug it out. Man, the writers are killing it this week… “They fisted me man,” shit I almost choked on my drink.

Arthur can’t care too much, he has everything you can ever want. Then comes to Primo Memorial Tribute Reel and he quickly realizes, fame and glory as Primo is short lived and ends very badly. Arthur finds the literal biggest sword I’ve ever seen”¦ like out of Soul Caliber to kill Slink and holy shit, that is Evil Dead the Musical splatter-zone level blood spray!

We get some of Karma’s (Alex McGregor) backstory. After faking her death she was brought into Heart for a corporate job. When that doesn’t work out, she creates Old Man Heart (Sean Cameron Michael) and murders everyone on the board. Alex McGregor is SO amazing here”¦ and look at Blood Drive providing social commentary about gender inequality!

Of course Slink is back and the plan is set… Sacrifice the Primo! Soon, all three of our heroes are captured. I really like the relationship the builds between Christopher and Grace, both untrusting of each other, but both bonding over their mutual love of Arthur”¦ and just then Christopher backstabs her using his Heart eye to project lies to him. Grace and Arthur have a crazy battle, and things continue to not be what they seem.

Karma has had enough of her plans to kill Grace and Arthur failing so she calls Slink to cancel Blood Drive. With no show left, and fighting an endless battle against the corporation he seemingly works for, Slink decides to recruit Grace and Arthur for one for super team up. The unholy trio versus Heart Enterprises. This was so bittersweet”¦ there is only one more episode in the season!

The writing duo of Harrison Weinfeld and Daniel Zucker hit a homerun here, with too many quotable lines to count. Alan Ritchson lived it up this week as Primo, Alex McGregor has been so effective as the big bad these past two episodes, and I’m so excited for the final blowoff with Christina Ochoa next week. You know the series you’re watching is great when each and every episode is your favorite episode of the season. Please SYFY, can you just calm us down and #renewBloodDrive already?! It is really hard to pick an MVP this week because everyone was great, but since my biggest shock came from Christopher, I’ll give it to Thomas Dominique.

Next Wednesday night, forget DVR and just get in front of the screen for Blood Drive‘s season finale, 10:00pm only on SYFY.

On Blood Drive Season 1, Episode 12: Mkay, yeah, sooo…Arthur might be taking this Primo thing just a tad bit too far.
