Marvel may rule the superhero movie world with their Marvel Cinematic Universe, but they have also extended that success to television. And with shows on ABC, Netflix, and Freeform, the world of Marvel is about to get bigger with Runaways on Hulu. The show, which is set to debut in November, has a lot of excitement surrounding it, and to help get more people enthusiastic about it, a handful of photos have been released, plus a few new details on the characters that make up the Runaways.
The title show follows six diverse teenagers who can barely stand each other, but who must unite against a common foe: their parents. And to help get us acquainted with the show are two new photos. Check them out here below.
Runaways is Marvel Entertainment’s ninth TV show. Considering that everything takes place within the same universe, one would have to worry about repetition. However, the show has the teenage angst angle going for it, and who doesn’t a love a little high school drama mixed in with a superhero flair? The series stars Rhenzy Feliz as Alex Wilder, a nerd who longs to reunite with his childhood friends; Lyrica Okano as Nico Minoru, a Wiccan who isolates herself with her gothic appearance and has magical powers via The Staff of One; Virginia Gardner as Karolina Dean, a model who is burdened by her privileged upbringing and wants to pursue her own desires and she can also manipulate solar rays; Ariela Barer as Gert Yorkes, riot grrrl and social justice warrior who has no physical powers but has a telepathic bond with Old Lace, a genetically engineered deinonychus (a dinosaur!); Gregg Sulkin as Chase Stein, a high school lacrosse player who is often dismissed as a dumb jock but displays bits of brilliance in engineering; and Allegra Acost, as Molly Hernandez, the youngest member of the Runaways who is characterized by her positive attitude and enhanced superhuman strength.
Also in the cast are Annie Wersching, Ryan Sands, Angel Parker, Ever Carradine, James Marsters, Kevin Weisman, Brigid Brannah, James Yaegashi, Brittany Ishibashi, and Kip Pardue.
It should be interesting to see how Marvel fans respond to the show given now that Netflix’s Defenders got a lukewarm reception, and ABC’s Inhumans is being gutted by critics. However, a look at how teenagers are not only learning to cope with their powers, but also the villainous parents offers some intriguing entertainment. If anything, it should entice fans to at least think about getting a Hulu account.
Runaways will debut on Hulu on November 21, 2017.
