If you thought Lucasfilm might let off the gas a bit when it comes to how many new Star Wars movies they’re developing anytime soon, you thought wrong.

It’s been announced that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the creators, producers, writers, and sometimes directors of HBO’s Game of Thrones, have signed on to write and produce a series of new Star Wars titles.

It’s not yet known what these movies will be about, but we do know that they will not be part of the main numbered series, and that they are not related to the separate trilogy of new films The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson is currently developing.

Of the news Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy had this to say:

“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”

Benioff and Weiss are also excited about the announcement, releasing this joint statement:

“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”

In addition to knowing nothing about what stories these new features will tell, it’s also not yet known when they might be released. Considering the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones is still a year or longer away, it will be a while before Weiss and Benioff can really dive in.

Another interesting question this raises is, what does this mean for the next HBO series from the duo? The show, which was said to be titled Confederate when it was announced last July, was immediately met with backlash. HBO has said the show’s announcement was poorly handled but stood behind it, and the series’ creative team—Weiss, Benioff, Nichelle Tramble Spellman, and Malcolm Spellman—discussed the show and the controversy in a lengthy interview with Vulture and asked that people wait until they actually see it to decide whether it’s good or bad.

Whether the news of Benioff and Weiss now joining the Star Wars family affects that project at all is unknown at the moment.
