Avengers: Infinity War

One of the highlights of the first look at Avengers: Infinity War at D23 Expo 2017 was Thanos (Josh Brolin) raising his hand in the air and make a throwing motion. Only thing is, he wasn’t throwing an energy ball, he was hurling an entire celestial object at our title heroes.

Up until now, fans who didn’t get a chance to see it had to paint a mental image of that in their heads. Now they get to see what that looks like in some newly released images. As we get closer to the release of the sequel, more and more promotional material will hit the web. Then there’s the inevitable trailer, which will try to match or surpass the first trailer. But for now, let’s just settle for the new images, which you can check out below.

These images first debuted on EW. We won’t post the entire gallery, but have pulled a few that might be of your interest.

The first is the celestial object that Thanos is hurling towards the Avengers. There was some speculation as to which planet that could be, with some saying its Xandar. However, the magazine confirms that it is actually Titan, the ruined homeworld of Thanos.

In the next image, we see Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) reuniting with The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) who crash lands on earth, and right into Doctor Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) Sanctum Sanctorum. There, they and Wong (Benedict Wong) must figure out how to deal with Thanos, who has arrived on Earth to collect the Time Stone.

And he isn’t the only one who sees Thanos’ Q-Ship hover over New York City. Spider-Man (Tom Holland), leaps into action to provide whatever help he can.

Another image takes us to Wakanda, who is going through problems of their own, as we saw in the trailer. In one of the images we see Wakandan technology chief Shuri (Letitia Wright) conversing with Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Bruce Banner. It’s not clear what they are talking about, but when you have a mind-controlling specialist and two of the smartest people on the planet, you can bet that they are talking about something very important.

And finally, as we have seen in that trailer moment for Avengers: Infinity War, War Machine (Don Cheadle), Captain America (Chris Evans), and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) have put aside their political differences to unite and stop Thanos’ army. But the image sees the three discussing their next plan of attack. It’s unclear what the three are talking about. But it looks like they aren’t harboring any resentment towards each other, any more.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

An unprecedented cinematic journey ten years in the making and spanning the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios’ “Avengers: Infinity War” brings to the screen the ultimate, deadliest showdown of all time. The Avengers and their Super Hero allies must be willing to sacrifice all in an attempt to defeat the powerful Thanos before his blitz of devastation and ruin puts an end to the universe.

Avengers: Infinity War will be released on April 27.
