Bill Hader and James McAvoy in IT Chapter 2

We were always going to go back to Derry, Maine, to revisit the sewer-scuttling terror known as Pennywise in IT: Chapter Two. After the success of the first IT, Warner Bros. made it a priority to get a sequel out. Since this was going to take place years after the events of the first movie, director Andy Muschietti would have to recast with adult actors. And that didn’t stop any of us from creating our very own dream cast.

Currently, Jessica Chastain is the only one confirmed for IT: Chapter Two. She would reunite with Muschietti after they worked together on Mama. And now you can add two more.

According to new reports, Bill Hader and James McAvoy are currently in talks to star in IT: Chapter Two. More on the story here below.

THR was the first to report on the story. In addition to breaking the news, they were also able to provide some character details. In it, we learn that Chastain would play an older Bev, the lone female member of the group. As an adult, she winds up in an abusive marriage. The character was played by Sophia Lillis.

Hader would play adult Richie Tozier, who was first played by Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard. The character was known to be a bit of a loudmouth, and a lot of the times that got him into a lot of trouble. In the sequel, he will grow up to be a DJ.

McAvoy is in talks to play adult Bill Denbrough, the leader of The Losers Club, who is motivated to drive Pennywise out of Derry after the killer murdered his younger brother. The report says Bill will grow up to be a successful author, but “when he returns to face his past, his old stutter resurfaces.” He was first played by Jaeden Lieberher.

Now, none of this is official. But the casting prospect should get very high marks. Chastain and McAvoy have worked together previously on The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby. And since Bev and Bill had a spark between them that was never explored, we could see that finally play out in the sequel.

Given that Wolfhard provided a lot of the comic relief in IT, it makes sense that Hader would come in to play the adult verison of Ritchie.

Producer Roy Lee has said that IT: Chapter Two is expected to start filming later this summer in Toronto. Which means that we could hear more casting news in the coming weeks. Ben, Eddie, Mike, and Stan are the remaining members of the Losers Club that still need to be cast.

Warner Bros. has scheduled IT: Chapter Two for a September 6, 2019, release.
