Sony Pictures Entertainment has released an official trailer for Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween, a follow-up to their 2015 adaptation of author R.L. Stine‘s popular book series of the same name.
Not a whole lot is known about the sequel yet, which is surprising considering an official trailer has now been released. You can find the trailer below along with a new poster and a little more on what we do know about the sequel.
The cast for Goosebumps 2 includes Jeremy Ray Taylor, Madison Iseman, Caleel Harris, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Chris Parnell, and Ken Jeong.
The one big question mark is of course Jack Black, who played Stine in the first movie. There were reports that two scripts had been written, one which featured Black and one that didn’t due to the possibility that his schedule wouldn’t allow him to return when Sony moved ahead with the project. Eventually it looked like Black would not be reprising his role as Stine, but would be voicing the puppet Slappy.
Watching the trailer it doesn’t appear that he’s in the movie, and even Slappy doesn’t really sound like him (though we do only hear him for a second, so who knows). On top of that, he’s not credited as part of the cast on IMDb at the moment. With a release still a few months off, perhaps they’re hoping to pull off some last-minute recordings with the actor.
The sequel is directed by Ari Sandel, who steps in to replace original director Rob Letterman. Sandel won an Academy Award for his live-action short film West Bank Story, and also directed The DUFF and When We First Met. The screenplay was written by Rob Lieber, whose credits include Peter Rabbit and its sequel and Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.
Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween is currently scheduled for an October 12th release.
