The Stranger Things kids were always going to age much faster than their characters. So in order to circumvent this problem, the series is getting a flash forward. In fact, season three takes place years after the season two finale, when a large stranger thing was looming over Hawkins, Indiana.
Now we are getting our first look at the new season and what it will have. Well sorta. A new teaser video has been released that introduces something nostalgic again: malls. Check out the teaser below.
Once again, this Stranger Things viral has a bunch of nostalgic bits all over. Sam Goody, has anyone seen one of those now? What about Waldenbooks? Then there’s Sam Goody, Claire’s, and Orange Julius. And it’s not even the shops. It’s the fashion, the haircuts, and the technology that are callbacks to the ’80s. Even the music in the teaser is a bit of a nod.
Now there isn’t anything shocking or revealing per se, but the Starcourt Mall could serve as a major location for Hawkins, Indiana, a small-town which has been going through some strange things.
Finally, there is one member of the cast who makes an appearance in the trailer. Well, actually two. Steve (Joe Keery) is the latest employee of Ahoy, an ice cream parlor at the Starcourt food court. Sure you may get a cheesy pun-filled greeting upon purchasing your ice cream. But he isn’t the only one, that young girl next to him will also appear in season three. That’s Maya Thurman-Hawke (daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman), who will play “alternative girl.”
Unfortunately, this teaser is likely the only thing we will get as there isn’t a Stranger Things panel at San Diego Comic-Con this year. That being said, we are likely to get more trailers and teaser images before the season three premiere, sometime in 2019.
Until, then, we will keep you posted on any new developments as they come in.
