Yesterday came the surprise announcement that Jason Reitman, the Oscar nominated director behind Juno and Up in the Air and the son of original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, will be directing a sequel to those beloved original flicks. The long-awaited Ghostbusters 3…at least until they announce an official title. Even more surprising was that Jason had been developing the sequel in secret, co-writing the screenplay with Monster House director Gil Kenan, and that it would actually begin filming in just a few months.
Now, to keep building on that, a teaser video for Ghostbusters 3 has been released. It’s not much, as you would expect from a movie that hasn’t begun filming yet, but it’s definitely a teaser made to strike some nostalgia chords with fans. You can check it out below.
Like the news last night, Entertainment Weekly also shared this first teaser video.
According to them the purpose of the teaser is to create more questions for fans to ponder, such as what over the course of the past 30 years led to whatever might be going on in this teaser.
And considering what Jason Reitman said for the announcement last night, that makes sense. He’s aiming to slowly gift fans with little surprises as the project moves forward:
“This is very early, and I want the film to unwrap like a present. We have a lot of wonderful surprises and new characters for the audience to meet.”
Ghostbusters 3 is currently planned for a summer 2020 release.
