Black Widow title card

After making her debut in 2010’s Iron Man 2, Scarlett Johansson‘s Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow finally makes her standalone film debut in Black Widow. Taking place after the events of Captain America: Civil War, the long-awaited film sees Natasha returning home and being met with a very unfriendly welcome. However, there is much more to it than that, as her return home also marks a family reunion of sorts.

While the cast was not on hand at the D23 Expo this weekend, Marvel Studios did share some interesting footage from the film. More on all of that here below.

The footage starts off with Natasha returning to Budapest, which seems to be a familiar ground for the former spy turned Avenger turned fugitive. She walks up to a spiral stairwell and cautiously enters an apartment, with her gun drawn, as she suspects someone might attack her. And she was right. Natasha engages in a fight with a blonde woman, they are able to trade guns, exchange blows, throw each other into cupboards, and draw knives. And before the fight can come to a fatal conclusion, they stop, and Florence Pugh‘s character is revealed to be Elaina, Natasha’s sister.

Soon, we see David Harbour‘s character, who reveals himself to be their father. And not only that, he is also sporting the Red Guardian suit. Which may explain why the actor said he had a complicated relationship with Captain America.

It then switches to the fight between Taskmaster and Black Widow. In it, he raises his iconic shield and uses his signature photographic reflexes to fight Black Widow. It’s an incredibly exciting sequence that should prove to be awesome to watch on the big screen.

It ended with Elaina joking about why Natasha has to do the superhero landing pose, and we get to see Natasha wearing a white spy suit doing the exact thing that she is being made fun of doing.

Rachel Weisz also stars.

Directed by Cate Shortland, who uses a script written by herself and Jac Schaeffer, Black Widow hits theaters on May 1, 2020.
