DC Comics announced on Friday that the extreme artist Rob Liefeld will be joining the creative teams of three ongoing DC book on their ninth issues, which are coming in May.
The creative team shake up comes in the wake of DC’s announcement of six ongoing series being canceled, one of which, Hawk and Dove, was Liefeld’s only current presence in the new DC universe. Those comics that will be affected by the creative team shift will be none other than Deathstroke, The Savage Hawkman and Grifter. You can check out a full image of Deathstroke by Liefeld below.

Got an extra 60 dollars? Well get out your credit/debit card information because if you haven’t read Y: The Last Man yet, you’re going to need it. Why? Well, because Comixology is offering the entire 60 issue series for 99 cents an issue. To put it simply, Brian K. Vaughan‘s Y: The Last Man is one of the best comic books of all time. Published by Vertigo and DC Comics, the series focused on a world that only had one man left on Earth. The comic is easily accessible for new readers and is one of those books that creates new readers. But even if you’re not new to comics, the book still has a wealth of material that is bold, creative, and exciting even by today’s standards.

| DC Relaunch: Six Comics Canceled and Replaced With ‘Second Wave’ |
By Hunter Camp
|
Friday, January 13th, 2012 at 11:30 pm |
DC Comics announced on Thursday that they would be setting up the second wave of “New 52” releases while also canceling six ongoing comics that were released in the initial run of the DC Relaunch.
Resting in peace are six comics that were quite good and enjoyable or had a lot of potential to be great, so they will definitely be missed. Those comic books are Blackhawks – a war comic focusing on a group of militaristic mercenaries in the vein of G.I. Joe; Hawk and Dove – the only DC book written by the extremely talented Sterling Gates with art from Rob Liefeld (more on him in another article); Men of War – a war book that was one of my favorite comics of the relaunch that took a realistic approach to the military in a world full of superheroes; Mister Terrific – one of the very few DC comics with a person of color as the leading role. Also, the main character was highly intelligent and, interestingly enough in a comic, atheist. O.M.A.C. – this to me is a tragedy considering that it was a fan favorite even in the light of poor sales. Sure it’s bizarre and nutso, but it was a complete blast to read. And finally Static Shock – one of, if not the only book that could be considered “youthful” and “fun,” and also one of the few books starring a person of color. All of these titles will see their last issues in April.

| The GoD List: Comics For January 4, 2012 |

Each and (almost) every week “Mr. Fifth Di-WTF is he talking about-mension” MK2Fac3 and “Mr. I’m Too Pretty For Formatting” Henchman21 read a lot of comics. Seriously you guys, a lot of comics. Maybe too many comics. I mean, it is possible”¦ theoretically. They look forward to some more than others, I mean, who doesn’t? So, let’s take a look into the depths of their pull lists, grab some comics, and we’ll let YOU know what the top books to look forward to are for the week of January 4, 2012. Single issues and trades, they’re all here. Happy New Year, lads and lasses! In just a short amount of days, I’ll be sailing the seven seas, but let’s catch up for a moment. How did you spend your New Year’s Eve and Day? Did you eat your good luck charms? Did you spend the holidays drunk and hungover? That’s neat. I spent mine laying in bed with an illness that can only be described as velociraptor-esque. But I can tell you one thing, I cracked the code of the fifth dimension. It’s simple, you see. Because the fifth dimension is what determines our very existence. It’s all based on words. Words define our lives because without language and words, we would not be able to communicate. Well, maybe we could through art? Who knows, I was running a fever and hallucinating. Either way, though, comics consist of both art and words, so it’s the perfect medium! You know what I’m saying? GoD List. Baller cakes.

| Superman Gets New Origin In ‘Action Comics #5’ But Does He Need One? |
By Hunter Camp
|
Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 at 10:00 am |

In Action Comics #5, Grant Morrison and Andy Kubert, care of DC Comics, will re-explore the origin story for Earth’s first and mightiest superhero, Superman. As it’s been done countless times, DC Comics has ordered up a brand new origin story for The Man of Steel, but this time, his story is the capable hands of my all-time favorite comic book writer Grant Morrison. Previously, Morrison had addressed the origin of Kal-El of Krypton brilliantly in one single page, the first page of his and Frank Quitely’s amazing mini-series All-Star Superman. So if there were any doubts as to whether Morrison could handle the origin, he can. But the question that begs to be asked from this is: Do we really need yet another origin story for The Man of Tomorrow so soon?
