Free Comic Book Day 2014

Free Comic Book Day has become a yearly tradition in comic book stores as they entice current and potential new readers alike with the lure of, as the day so accurately proclaims, a stack of free comics to try out. These titles represent most of the major comic book publishers and a cross-section of genres and age appropriateness.

The Free Comic Book Day committee have selected and announced the twelve issues that have been awarded the Gold Sponsor level. Dan Manser, FCBD spokesperson, noted “this year’s Gold Sponsors are comprised of the top publishers in the comics industry we we’re sure that fans will be pleased with the line-up.”

The full list of Gold Sponsor issues can be found below.

Fantastic Fear of Everything starring Simon Pegg

Simon Pegg’s latest film to hit America is in the paranoia-drenched comedy A Fantastic Fear of Everything, and as with everything starring him, it looks utterly fantastic, if only to see the disheveled Pegg go completely mental.

The film is written and directed by Crispin Mills and co-directed by Chris Hopewell, both of whom make their directorial debut here. The movie was originally released in the UK back in 2012, but is now making its way across the pond. You can check out the full synopsis and the trailer below.

Ghost B.C.: If You Have Ghost EPIf You Have Ghost

Produced by Dave Grohl
Universal Republic
Released November 19, 2013

One of Sweden’s finest current musical exports, Ghost (known as Ghost B.C. in the U.S.), has a new EP out If You Have Ghost that follows up on the band’s sophomore album Infestissumam which was released earlier this year.

The 5-song EP, produced by Dave Grohl, continues to expand on the eerie, satanic synth-driven metal sound which has propelled Ghost to fame since their debut back in 2010. Here, Ghost tackles four covers giving them all their unique musical approach and sound, and then concludes with a live version of “Secular Haze”. Two of the covers were available via different Infestissumam releases, though it is nice to have them in one collection.

The return of a comet which has not passed Earth in 65 million years is the cause of celebration in the streets to witness the event as the planet passes through the comet’s tail. But as dawn rises on Los Angeles, sisters Regina (Catherine Mary Stewart) and Samantha (Kelli Maroney) discover that the comet’s tail has literally vaporized almost the entire human population. And those that were exposed to the comet but lived have been mutated into zombies who require uncontaminated human blood in order to keep living.

Now, Regina and Samantha, who are learning to adapt to the apocalypse via the one thing valley girls do best – heading to the mall for a shopping spree – must avoid zombies, armed gangs of stock boys and a team of scientists who survived via an underground bunker if they expect to live another night!

Night of the Comet makes its Blu-ray debut here and brings with it all the nostalgic glory the cult favorite has to offer. The movie, originally released in 1984, is a hodgepodge of light science-fiction and horror heavily sprinkled with charming comedy-stylings. Think Fast Times at Ridgemont High paired up with The Omega Man.
