The final panel of theatrical releases at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H belonged to the much-anticipated and long-awaited Avengers: Age of Ultron, where the first footage from the film was shown (description of the footage is below).

Marvel CEO Kevin Feige introduced Robert Downey, Jr. and he waltzed out to the boogieing strains of Michael Jackson’s “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough.” He opened a Pelican briefcase and pulled out long-stemmed red roses, which he tossed into the crowd, to ecstatic cheers. Feige continued to introduce the cast — Jeremy Renner, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Cobie Smulders, Samuel L. Jackson, Chris Evans, Paul Bettany (The Vision), and newcomers to the Marvel Cinematic Universe Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Quicksilver), James Spader (Ultron), and Elisabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch).

Ant-Man Header

The epilogue to today’s proceedings at San Diego’s Comic-Con’s Hall H culminated with the Marvel panels, in which thousands of restless fans, most of whom waited hours to finally witness them. And they did not disappoint one iota. Making everyone wait till the last possible second with breathless anticipation as collective clapping almost became reminiscent of a prison riot of sorts, the lights finally dimmed to ear splitting cheers and applause.

An out of this world Marvel sizzle reel, which sizzled and cooked at supernova intensity, showcased the best of the past decade of Marvel films, culminating with scenes from the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy, the company’s tenth film overall, including Thanos in space on this throne.

Moderated by Taking Dead‘s Chris Hardwick, first on the menu was the panel for Ant-Man, which has been shrouded in slight controversy with the dismissal of the original director, Edgar Wright. The panel was composed of Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige, Paul Rudd, who plays the titular character, legendary actor Michael Douglas, newly appointed director of the film, Peyton Reed, and confirmed just now to be in the film — Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll.

SDCC 2014: Sin City: A Dame To Kill For panel

The anticipated sequel to Sin City, the highly stylized live-action cum comic book adaptation titled Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, made its debut at San Diego Comic-Con in famed Hall H on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and the audience got to see a clip from the film center on Mickey Rourke’s character Marv, as well as a teaser video of sorts with new footage.

Moderated by Geoff Boucher with a panel composed of Robert Rodriguez, who called the story one of the most original and groundbreaking graphic novels of all time, and creator/illustrator and writer of that graphic novel, Frank Miller, who was sporting wearing his trademark Fedora and admittedly, looking rather gaunt, but still waxed poetic about his craft and vision, a vision in which film noir meets surrealism, even on the printed page.

SDCC 2014: Jupiter Ascending panel comic con

Jupiter Ascending, a wild, swinging juggernaut of a science-fiction film, created by the eclectic Wachowskis, Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski, made a strong debut at Comic Con’s Hall H today. Moderated by Chris Hardwick and starring Channing Tatum, who Hardwick had jokingly asked to take of his shirt and do a Magic Mike “cosplay,” asked Tatum questions about the film, in which he said was going to be a crazy, incredible ride indeed.
