Directed by John Carpenter
Written by John Carpenter, Debra Hill
Starring Jamie Lee Curtis, Tony Moran, Donald Pleasence, Nancy Kyes, P.J. Soles
Lionsgate Home Entertainment
Release date: September 25, 2018 John Carpenter‘s Halloween is one of the greatest horror films ever made, and turned the filmmaker from an up and coming director to a horror legend. If Psycho is the mother of all horror movies, then Halloween may be its spiritual son. Forty years after its 1978 theatrical release, Halloween spawned not only sequels and remakes, but an entire sub-genre: the slasher film. This Friday, October 19th the 11th movie to enter the long-running franchise opens worldwide. This new film, also called Halloween, was directed by David Gordon Green (Pineapple Express) and written by Green, Danny McBride, and Jeff Fradley and is a direct sequel to Carpenter’s seminal classic. With that in mind, it’s a perfect time to revisit the original in the best way possible, with the new 4K Ultra Blu-ay Combo Pack.

Rated PG-13 | 118 Minutes
Release Date: October 16, 2018 Ant-Man And The Wasp is Marvel Studios’ 20th film. Based on the heroes of the same name, director Peyton Reed‘s hilarious sequel finds Scott Lang, who is under house arrest after colluding with Captain America in Captain America: Civil War, in a position where he has to balance out his life as a superhero with his life as a father. As with the previous Ant-Man film, the sequel takes place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but is a film with contained story that only concerns itself with its own characters and their relationships. The only links to the MCU is that it acknowledges what Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) did in Germany and how he and everyone associated with him, including Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) are paying the price.

Hocus Pocus
25th Anniversary Edition
Blu-ray | DVD
Directed by Kenny Ortega
Starring Bette Midler, Thora Birch, Kathy Najimy, Sarah Jessica Parker, Stephanie Faracy
Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment
Run Time: 96 minutes
Rated PG
Release Date: September 4, 2018 It is the 25th anniversary of this cult favorite and to celebrate, there is a spanking brand new Blu-ray for sale everywhere. Just for fans, you can watch the We Love Hocus Pocus Trivia and Treats Edition of Hocus Pocus, which plays the movie “with fun facts, trivia, concept art, storyboards, behind-the-scenes magic, and more!” In 1993, Hocus Pocus was written off by critics as a silly Halloween-themed kids movie. While it grossed $39.5 million, it barely cracked the top 40 box office for the year, under such “classics” as The Beverly Hillbillies and Dennis the Menace. However, as often is the case with movies aimed at children, the kids grow up and with them come large pairs of nostalgia goggles that, in this case, have turned Disney’s witch comedy into a cult classic, especially for those now in their mid-30s. Capitalizing on this nostalgia and the fact that most of these 30-somethings have children of their own now, Disney released a new Anniversary Edition of the film on Blu-ray and digital right in time for its 25th birthday and Halloween season. More below on Hocus Pocus 25th Anniversary Edition.

Screenwriters: Andy Nyman, Jeremy Dyson
Cast: Andy Nyman, Paul Whitehouse, Alex Lawther, Martin Freeman, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Paul Warren
Distributor: Scream Factory | IFC Midnight
Not Rated | 98 Minutes
Release Date: September 4, 2018 “Everything is exactly as it seems.” Written and directed by Andy Nyman and Jeremy Dyson, Ghost Stories is an atmospheric, impeccably crafted British horror anthology that subverts genre conventions while delivering legitimate chills. Adapted from their stage play, the film sees Nyman (of The Commuter and Death at a Funeral) reprising his role as Phillip Goodman, a well-known professor who has devoted his life to exposing phony psychics and supernatural shenanigans. A debunker of all things paranormal, Goodman believes that it is his life’s work to stop people’s lives from being ruined by superstition. He receives an invitation to visit a famed 1970s paranormal investigator, Charles Cameron (Leonard Byrne), who inspired him as a kid, but disappeared decades ago. Now living as a sick and impoverished old man, Cameron asks Goodman to investigate a few unsolved cases of supposedly real ghost sightings.

Hereditary
4K | Blu-ray | DVD
Written & Directed by Ari Aster
Starring Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne, Alex Wolff
Lions Gate Home Entertainment
Release Date: September 4, 2018 Hereditary is written and directed by first-time feature-length filmmaker Ari Aster and is currently ranked as my second best film of 2018 and far and away my favorite horror film of the year, and maybe of the past decade. Since seeing it on opening night back in June, I’ve been haunted by it, waking up in the middle of the night and checking the corners of my ceiling. The movie was critically lauded, currently sitting at 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, but has divided film audiences. Produced by indie darlings, A24, the same company that gave us The Witch, It Comes At Night, and The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Hereditary is a complex horror film that deserves full attention and the utmost respect. One of the most talked about and debated films of 2018 is available in stores now as special Blu-Ray/DVD/Digital combo pack.
