Apollo Gauntlet
Season 1 Episode 1: “Origins”
Directed by Greg Franklin
Written by Myles Langlois
Created by Myles Langlois
Starring Myles Langlois, Tom Kenny, Betsy Sodaro, Mark Proksch, Kelsy Abbott, James Urbaniak
Adult Swim
Air Date: Monday, July 10th, 2017, 12:30am Early in the AM hours, Apollo Gauntlet joined the parade of lunacy that is Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim. Adult Swim started back in 2001 and quickly became a cult hit with its briskly paced, sarcastic, and crude series like Home Movies, Harvey Birdman, and Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Apollo Gauntlet, created by Myles Langlois, is a perfect fit for Adult Swim with its old fashioned style of animation and nearly unending stream of consciousness style puns, one-liners, and pop culture references. Blood Drive
Season 1 Episode 4: “In The Crimson Halls Of Kane Hill”
Directed by James Roday
Written by Nina Fiore, John Herrera
Created by James Roland
Starring Alan Ritchson, Christina Ochoa, Thomas Dominique, Marama Corlett, Colin Cunningham, Andrew Hall, Darren Kent, Renee Castle
Syfy
Air Date: Wednesday, July 5th, 2017, 10pm Blood Drive is as in your face a show as you will get on television. Benefitting from its late night slot on Syfy channel, the show gets away with pay cable levels of blood and gore, and is already starting to rival Ash vs. Evil Dead for bloodiest good time you can have without actually killing anyone. Last time, we saw Arthur (Alan Ritchson) and Grace (Christina Ochoa) escape from Steel City, a post-apocalyptic industrial wasteland inhabited by a few scared human survivors and plenty of monstrous CHUD-like things called “Glimmers.” They managed to escape, and pulled off yet another miracle at the Blood Drive finish line (sorry Clown Dick). Meanwhile, Julian Slink (Colin Cunningham) was having some hilarious troubles with the network executives who want to take his death race to a larger audience. Cunningham chews the scenery as much as the engines in the cars chew human flesh. And Arthur’s partner, Christopher (Thomas Dominique), was being held captive by Aki (Marama Corlett). I’m not sure if he was being tortured or seduced in some 50 Shades of Grey sorta way. This week, Arthur and Grace attempt to rescue her sister from Kane Hill, but it looks like the inmates are running the asylum… Check out my review for Blood Drive Episode 4 below.

Preacher
Episode 2.3 “Damsels”
Directed by Evan Goldberg, Seth Rogen
Written by Sam Catlin
Starring Dominic Cooper, Joe Gilgun, Ruth Negga, Gianna LePera, Graham McTavish, Tom Brooke, Ian Colletti, Julie Ann Emery
AMC
Air date: Monday, July 3rd, 2017, 9pm Preacher‘s second season started off with a bang with a back to back night extravaganza last week on AMC. Not hesitating for a minute, Sunday night’s premiere opened with an epic 10-minutes that saw our heroic trio of force carrying Preacher, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his partner in crime and occasional lover Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Irish Vampire sidekick Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) engage in a bloody explosive laden shoot out with the Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish). He is sent from Hell to kill Jesse to stop Genesis, the all powerful force that possesses him. Meanwhile, the trio is evading death from the Saint, while chasing down God who has disappeared. After a trek through Texas to the Mumbai Sky Tower casino, they encounter rogue angel Fiore (Tom Brooke) and get a lead on God, to the jazz capital of the world, New Orleans. This is bad news for Tulip as her past is rapidly catching up to her. Through two episodes, Preacher has been suitably epic. Laugh out loud funny, shockingly poignant and emotional, and brutally violent and bloody, the chase for God continues… Check out my review of Preacher episode 3 below.

Syfy
Air Date: Wednesday, June 28th, 2017, 10pm Last week, on Syfy’s newest guilty pleasure Blood Drive, the drivers were forced into an uneasy alliance to escape a diner/motel serving as a cannibal chopshop. Cop Arthur (Alan Ritchson) and beautiful Grace Argento (Christina Ochoa) who were forced to get really close just to survive day 1, managed to make it out of day 2, and use the “cook” from the diner as fuel to keep on racing. We also learned more about Heart Enterprise, the global conglomerate that took over after “The Scar” tore the US apart. Arthur’s partner, Christopher (Thomas Dominique), is kidnapped by Heart cyborg Aki (Marama Corlett), while Blood Drive creator Julian Slink (Colin Cunningham) is given ultimatums by the mysterious Heart executives. AMC
Air date: Monday, June 26th, 2017, 9pm Preacher‘s second season on AMC is NOT wasting time with two episodes in two nights. The opening ten minutes of Sunday night’s premiere was just awesome, combining all the elements that Preacher fans have come to expect; quick witted dialogue, hellacious and gory violence, and screwball comedy. Jesse (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) are on the road searching for God. Meanwhile the Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish) is searching for them, and he’s leaving no stone unturned. The trio ended up in a fleabag motel and in a touching moment, Jesse literally broke down the door for Tulip. But alas, you can’t relax for long when you’re being stalked by a cowboy from Hell. WARNING: Spoilers for Episode 2.2 of Preacher….
