What’s Become of Disney’s ‘King of the Elves’?

Disney's King of the Elves

Back in April 2008, Disney announced their schedule of titles through 2012 for new animated features and King of the Elves, which is based on a fantasy short story by Philip K. Dick, was included on that list. At that time, the only details was a brief synopsis of the film, which centers on an ordinary elderly man who reluctantly becomes the leader of a band of elves attempting to escape from an evil troll. But early last month, I noticed that the Disney Animation site had added King of the Elves to their “Projects” area, along with a very Lord of the Rings-like title treatment (see it here at top).

Now, /Film noticed that the CG-animated film, which is slated for a Christmas 2012 release in Disney Digital 3D, has been taken down from the upcoming Projects area (though the film-specific page is still on the site, you just can’t navigate to it anymore).

Worst Idea Ever: Tobey Maguire As Bilbo Baggins In ‘The Hobbit’?

The Hobbit

In case you missed it, the interwebs were abuzz yesterday with whispers of Spider-Man star and newly Golden Globe nominated Brothers actor Tobey Maguire possibly being in consideration for the highly-coveted role of Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson‘s The Hobbit. At first glance, this sounds like the worst rumor ever to be started, but in fact, it turned out to have some solid backing to it.

The possibilities began when Latino Review was informed that while promoting Brothers, Maguire was asked about who he would like to work with in the future, to which he replied “Guillermo del Toro. We may have something here in the near future.” Of course, this is way too good to just leave as it is, so LR dug a little deeper and discovered that Maguire was actually in the earliest of chit-chatting stages with producers of The Hobbit about the role.

Another New ‘Star Wars’ Movie Rumor That No One Will Believe

Star Wars

We all know the routine: every once in a great while, a rumor surfaces that a brand new Star Wars movie could be in the works. The first thought is that George Lucas has finally decided that he wants to do the mythical last trilogy that would show us what happened after the original saga. After that, there’s thoughts of movies that just take place in a different part of that world, but that’s what the live-action television series we’ve heard about is supposed to be doing. So…just for the fun of it all, if they were making a brand new Star Wars movie, what could they be doing and what would YOU want them to do?

Now, I have no idea how this was even discovered, but Ain’t it Cool News went on an archaeological excavation and found a very brief, random bit encased within a blog written by Thomas Dolby, the man who co-wrote the Howard the Duck theme song.

UPDATED! Will ‘Men In Black 3’ Add Josh Brolin To The Team?

Men in Black

UPDATE: It looks like Mr. Brolin would indeed be playing a younger version of Jones’ K, with Will Smith’s J heading back in time somehow. To be fair, anything can work if handled properly, but at the moment, I for one am not a fan of this. Time travel is a gimmick and people don’t enjoy it unless it’s important enough to the story and if the reason for it makes sense. We’ve never seen time travel in Men in Black, so they would have to have a really cool reason for doing it. Does this mean that Jones isn’t coming back and they just wanted to retain the character?

Hero Complex has received word that Sony is considering Josh Brolin for a role in Men in Black III. No word yet on who the No Country For Old Men and Milk star would be playing in the movie, but whispers say that he could play a new recruit that one of MiB’s finest would have to train OR that he could be a younger Tommy Lee Jones character, though this is all speculation.

Men in Black III has not officially been greenlit yet, but they did hire Etan Cohen (Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder) to get the script written. All signs so far point to Will Smith being prepped and ready to return to the franchise if the ignition is fired up, but the return of Jones is still a big question mark.

No Shock Here: ‘Call Of Duty’ Movie Possibly On The Way

Captain "Soap" Mactavish

Kevin McKidd is one of those actor who is incredible in all that he does, but isn’t really known among those who haven’t seen his works. The Scottish actor is best known as the main character of HBO’s Rome, Lucius Vorenus, but he’s been making a decent mark on more mainstream television series like Grey’s Anatomy and the canceled Journeyman. Next year, he will play Poseidon in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, but right now, he’s appearing in a less-visual role: Captain “Soap” MacTavish in the video game mega-hit Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

Recently, McKidd spoke to the NY Post about his current prospective projects, and Call of Duty came up. He confessed that he had no idea that the game would be so popular, and that now they’re apparently toying with the idea of a movie based on the title. This comes as no surprise to anyone considering how popular the games are, and considering the genre, it could absolutely work well in movie form.
