‘Zombieland’ Writers Also Taking On ‘G.I. Joe’ Sequel

The writing duo for popular Summer horror comedy Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are apparently the men of the moment. Just this past Tuesday, it was confirmed that the pair would be taking on the writing duties for the Ryan Reynolds Deadpool adaptation, which seems like a perfect match. Now comes word via an IESB scoop that Reese and Wernick will also be taking on the sequel to G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. If this news pans out, the hiring is definitely not that match made in heaven for the writers like Deadpool is. G.I. Joe won a lot of people over who were expecting it to be unwatchable, but it also remained unwatchable to many others. In any scenario, it is a much cheesier and action-heavy project than Zombieland was or Deadpool is likely to be. This leads one to believe that it could be a “paycheck” job for these gentleman, which is fair and deserved. One thing is for sure, though: if they can add a little Zombieland good-ness to G.I. Joe, it might just take a big step up on the entertainment levels.

Late Night Chaos: Jay Leno Jokes About Cancellation Rumor But Will NBC Move Him Back To Old Time Slot?

When Jay Leno officially ended his stint as the host of The Tonight Show and Conan O’Brien took over, it never really felt right. Since Leno’s new earlier show debuted and since Conan took over, ratings have been sadly mediocre, which has been growing more and more apparent as of late. With the lackluster numbers coming in, the whispers around town began growing into wide-spread rumors and unofficial reports that Leno’s show would be canceled. Amidst all of the drama that is likely flying around behind the scenes of this situation, Leno didn’t miss a beat and made sure to joke about the rumors on his show. Though it is doubtful that Leno will be canceled, things just became a little bit more interesting: The New York Times is reporting that there may still be a plan in the works to stop the bleeding. The report claims that NBC will wait until after the upcoming Winter Olympics break, and that they would then move The Jay Leno Show back to the host’s old time slot of 11:35PM. The catch of this move is that Leno’s show would be cut to 30 minutes in length, and that would see The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien being pushed back to a 12:05AM start time, and then Jimmy Fallon at 1:05AM. Continue on over to watch the video of Jay Leno joking about his cancellation!

New ‘Wizard Of Oz’ To Be Modernized Family Film; Todd McFarlane’s Dark Vision Dead?

It appears that the creepy world of The Wizard of Oz that everyone wanted to see from Spawn creator Todd McFarlane may not be coming our way any time soon. A scoop from Pajiba points to Warner Brothers passing by McFarlane and moving forward with a take that was once thought to be disliked by those involved. Back in October was the last time that we heard from McFarlane about the progress of his film, and things seemed to be moving forward (Read: Todd McFarlane Talks The Status Of His Twisted “˜Wizard Of Oz’; Shares Story Details). He claimed that he was developing the film with A History of Violence scribe Josh Olson, whose first script was too light and “too Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” for his darker vision, and that rewrites were happening. The interesting thing about that situation, is that it sounded like McFarlane had sold Warner Brothers on his idea, and that he was perfectly okay with the fact that he would have to sacrifice some of his extreme ideas, saying “I just found it odd that they bought that cool, creepy pitch and now they’re taking a step back.” This quote is now even more interesting with the revelation that Warner Brothers is now leaning MORE toward Olson’s script, and running away from the darker idea all together. Click on over to read a brief description of the Oz that we just might be seeing in the near future.

The 3D Epidemic: When Does The Novelty Become The Standard & Is This What We Want?
Recently, The Wrap did a story on the new 3D technology and the vice-grip hold it has on the world of Hollywood. As we are all very much aware, it feels like every single movie that’s made these days is released in 3D, and in a lot of cases, we find ourselves asking the question “Why?” over and over again. In this new article, it is revealed that apparently Ridley Scott himself is “breathing down the necks” of executives at Universal to spend an extra $7-8 Million to make a 3D version of his upcoming period action/drama, Robin Hood. This is obviously one of the more confusing titles that we’ve heard associated with the 3D phenomena, and it lead us to begin wondering when this whole technology has just gone too far?
Many big names in the business have laid solid claim to 3D being the future of cinema, but judging by the collective feelings of movie fans, it is unclear whether this is what people want. There’s no doubt at all that when it comes to films like Avatar, which is built specifically for that technology, and fun movies like Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, 3D can be a really great time. But when this is happening so often that a movie like Robin Hood is even joining the party, you can’t help but think it’s only a matter of time before we see movies like Steven Spielberg‘s Abraham Lincoln biopic Lincoln getting in line for some 3D action. That’s just too much.
