It’s that time once again folks, as we have officially come to the close of the summer movie season and get ready for Oscar season and the winter holiday films. I’ve been looking over my list of new movies I have seen this year — and yes this includes older movies as well, but also movies that I have seen for the first time – to pick my favorites so far. So the easiest step of my process for this post is to first go through and get rid of the older movies and then get into the nitty gritty of compiling my top ten movies of 2016…so far.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, 10 Cloverfield Lane stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) as Michelle, a woman who wakes up in an underground bomb shelter after a nerve-shattering car accident. The bunker is owned by Howard (John Goodman), a paranoid survivalist who believes that a widespread chemical attack has left Earth’s surface uninhabitable.

J.J. Abrams Says ’10 Cloverfield Lane’ “Is Very Purposefully Not Called ‘Cloverfield 2′”
So far we know that the Dan Trachtenberg-directed 10 Cloverfield Lane is a blood-relative to Cloverfield – which was directed by Matt Reeves. Producer J.J. Abrams made that abundantly clear when a surprise trailer made its debut in theaters alongside 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers Of Benghazi earlier this year. But just sharing the name has a few thinking that the new film is a direct sequel to the 2008 sci-fi hit.
Now Abrams wants to clear the air. Despite the fact that the two films share the same name, and the characters are in the same world as the first Cloverfield, 10 Cloverfield Lane is not “Cloverfield 2.” It’s just 10 Cloverfield Lane. Check out what he had to say here below.
