Watch Now: ‘Dredd’ Packs Some Serious Heat In This First Trailer
I hope that mediocre 1995 Judge Dredd movie with Sylvester Stallone hasn’t put off the character forever because the first trailer for Dredd has arrived today. You can watch it here below.
Directed by Pete Travis (Vantage Point) from a script by novelist and screenwriter Alex Garland (Sunshine), Dredd takes us into a grungier Mega City-One straight out of District 9 and pits futuristic lawman Judge Joe Dredd (Karl Urban) and his mind-reading rookie partner Cassandra Anderson (Olivia Thirlby) against a gang of cutthroats and scumdogs led by drug baroness Ma-Ma, played by Lena Headey of Game Of Thrones and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

Check Out These New Stills and Poster From ‘Dredd’
|
|
It’s about time some promotional materials from the upcoming futuristic action-thriller Dredd started to emerge. Based on one of the U.K.’s most popular comic book characters, Judge Dredd – the iconic policeman of a post-apocalyptic world who doles out justice via the barrel of a gun – was last given the big screen treatment back in 1995 with Sylvester Stallone in the role. But the movie was a resounding and costly flop that rankled fans of the character and fans of decent action flicks alike. Myself, I happen to enjoy it only as long as I can pretend that Rob Schneider’s annoying comedy sidekick is not really there.
This year the good judge is getting a gritty reboot with Karl Urban (Star Trek) donning the helmet of Mega City One’s greatest badass lawman and Pete Travis (Vantage Point) directing the movie from a screenplay by Alex Garland (28 Days Later). Now we have the first poster for Dredd as well as a pair of visually striking images from the film for your perusal.
You can check them out here below.

Geek Peek: First Look At Karl Urban In New ‘Judge Dredd’
The first image of Lord of the Rings and Star Trek star Karl Urban in the upcoming reboot of Judge Dredd has shown up online.
Urban will be playing the same lead role played by Sylvester Stallone in the 1995 adaptation. But while the look of Dredd himself isn’t too different here, it’s been promised that this new movie will not be anything like that attempt, and will be completely and totally faithful to the original comic which debuted in the UK’s 2000 AD magazine.
Along with Urban, the movie also stars Olivia Thirlby (Juno, The Wackness) as Cassandra Anderson, and is currently filming in Johannesburg, South Africa.
You can head on over to the other side now to read the synopsis and check out the first image of Karl Urban as Judge Dredd now!

‘Halo’ Movie Might Still Happen… Maybe… Possibly… Do You Even Still Care?
|
|
A movie adaptation of the massively popular Microsoft video game franchise, Halo, has been talked about for a good five or so years now. At one point it was rolling forward steadily with Neil Blomkamp (before anyone had a clue who he was) attached to direct and Peter Jackson set to produce. At the time, things weren’t quite what they are now and a rising budget forced backers Universal and Fox to pull out and everything to fall apart around the project.
Little did they know at the time, that soon it would be much easier to do big budget effects with less cost. And in a cruel twist of ironic fate, it was Jackson and Blomkamp who left Halo and went on to make a little movie called District 9 on a minor $30 million budget, which received critical praise, over $210 million at the box office, and even a Best Picture nomination at the Academy Awards. Knowing this knowledge, we probably would already have at least one Halo movie, and judging by how popular the games are, more would be on the way.
