Batman v Superman: Ultimate Edition

Given what our reviews have said about Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, how will an extra 30 minutes help the Ultimate Edition? While there was a lot of missing information from the theatrical cut, a newly released trailer to promote the Blu-ray seems to fill in some of the plot holes giving us hope that maybe this was the film that was supposed to be released in the first place.

We’ve already seen one tiny glimpse of the Ultimate Edition which supposedly has an Easter Egg to the main villain in Justice League, but this trailer seems to focus more on filling in those gaps with never-before-seen footage. Check out the trailer below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Image 06

It’s hard to argue that Jeremy Irons was one of the best parts of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice with him spending most of his time with another strong part of the film, Ben Affleck – who also co-wrote the script with fellow Argo writer Chris Terrio. With everything else pretty much a mess, it was hard to see the cast have to answer questions about the flaws and criticisms, especially Affleck who didn’t look all too pleased. But now that we are passed all of that and Justice League: Part One is starting to shoot, it is interesting to hear what the cast really has to say about the film.

Now Irons is opening up about how Batman v Superman deserves all the criticism it got after its release, but he remains optimistic about Justice League: Part One. More on the story below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice

No matter how you look at it, Warner Bros.’ recent decisions have been a result of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s disappointing performance at the box office and less than warm critical reception. The studio will be releasing fewer films and focus on their blockbuster tentpoles. Creative differences forced Seth Grahame-Smith to leave The Flash, while reports said James Wan was “feeling tremendous amounts of trepidation” about directing Aquaman. Wan sent out a comforting tweet reassuring fans he was still on board the project.

Despite the rumors that if BvS didnt’ meet certain box office expectations, WB would have moved forward with other DCEU solo features, the studio marches on with the production of Justice League, and going as far as naming Ben Affleck as an executive producer. He continues “to be supportive of Snyder” and that he’ll work with Snyder and screenwriter Chris Terrio “to make the film the best it can be.”

But it appears as though the changes are not over, as WB is now going to mirror their competitors by creating a brain trust to oversee the DC Extended Universe. More on the story below.

Ben Affleck as Batman

In addition to his central role as Batman, Ben Affleck is fast becoming one of the critical creative forces behind the camera in the DC Cinematic Universe. He reportedly performed on-set rewrites of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice script and will also be writing the future solo Batman movie (rumored to be titled The Batman) as well as directing the project.

Recently, the multi-talented Affleck earned himself another hat to wear as he has taken on the role of executive producer on next year’s Justice League Part I, in which he is also obviously returning as Batman.

‘Batman v Superman’ Had An Even Longer Runtime Than The Ultimate Edition

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Henry Cavill

It seems that Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice couldn’t get any longer than the theatrical cut. The film runs at two and a half hours, which is pretty long. A common criticism is that the film had pacing and editing problems with one too many plotholes. If anything, extending BvS would only add to those problems. So when it was announced that there was going to be a 3-hour Blu-ray Ultimate Edition, there was a chance that it could have solved some of those issues. Though that remains to be seen.

Now it appears that there is a much longer cut that no one has seen yet. A near four-hour version of the film that only BvS editor David Brenner knows about until now. Check out what he had to say here below.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Movie Review

It’s not easy to defend Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. The vast majority of critics have panned the film and its box office numbers continue to drop at an alarming rate. Despite the fallout, Warner Bros. remains optimistic that the DC Extended Universe will be just as successful as the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We know that we will get a three-hour rated-R Ultimate Edition Blu-ray in the very near future, and saw a small snippet of what was cut when a deleted scene was released by the studio.

However, it looks like we won’t have to wait very long to see that cut as there are reports that say the Ultimate Edition cut could appear in theaters as early as this summer. More on the story below.

Zack Snyder Actually Deleted A ‘Batman v Superman’ Scene Because It Was Too Dark

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice Henry Cavill Wayne Manor

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is one of the most divisive comic book films of the past decade. Traditionalists believe that director Zack Snyder has no understanding of Superman, while apologists have no trouble working overtime explaining that the new direction is great for the character. Most would agree that Ben Affleck was a fine Batman, but a lot of the issues are centered on the Man of Steel himself. The film has also been criticized for being overly dark and mopey.

Now it is being revealed that Snyder had actually cut out one scene from the film for being too dark. As if that could actually happen. But when you hear what scene he cut out, you may or may not agree with the decision. Check out what he had to say here below.

‘Batman v Superman’: Disappointing Box Office May Lead WB To Release Fewer Films

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’s disappointing second week drop and negative reviews, along with the mixed general audience, is having a ripple effect over at Warner Bros. Studios. The sequel grossed a meager $51 million, a 69% drop from its opening weekend of $166 million. With those kind of numbers, and a slew of other tentpoles that are getting more positive word of mouth, it is highly unlikely that BvS will even reach the $1 billion mark.

The poor performance will now have WB mulling over a decision to release fewer films in a given year. More on the story below.

Ben Affleck Has Written The Solo Batman Movie

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Image 06

Despite the major disappointment in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the single glimmer of hope that the DCEU can have some sense of joy came from the Dark Knight himself. Ben Affleck, who played the Caped Crusader, was one of the few bright things about a film so bogged down by being dour. Despite becoming a meme now, fans are excited that there is a new Batman in town, and they simply cannot wait to see what he will do in Justice League and hopefully his own solo adventure.

The actor has been rumored to have been working on a script with Geoff Johns and that he would also be directing. Now we can partially put that rumor to rest as a new report confirms that Affleck has indeed written a script. The report is also revealing how many films he is signed on to appear in. More on the story below.

NYCC 2015: Kevin Smith

The critics and audience have spoken, and while the former didn’t like it as much as the latter, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was the number one film at the box office. This wouldn’t be the first time that there was a huge disparity between audiences and critics, and it won’t be the last. You’ve already seen our review of the film. And now celebrities are voicing their opinions on it. But one of them may come as a huge surprise.

Following his hosting duties on the DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League special on The CW with DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, Kevin Smith has expressed some of his disappointment in BvS, saying that it lacked joy and that there is a “fundamental lack of understanding of what those characters are about.” See what else he had to say below.
