Misfits & Monsters

A trailer was released recently for the debut season of Misfits & Monsters, a new horror-comedy anthology series coming to truTV.

The show comes from Bobcat Goldthwait, who’s best known as the stand-up comedian and actor who appeared in the Police Academy movies, Scrooged, and Shakes the Clown, and more recently as the filmmaker behind World’s Greatest Dad, God Bless America, and Willow Creek.

The trailer is kind of a trailer/featurette hybrid, with peeks at the show paired with Goldthwait talking about it. You can read more about Misfits & Monsters and check out the trailer along with some bonus videos below.

Edge of Tomorrow Movie Review by Adam Frazier

Welcome back to another edition of The Digital Wire. For this week’s roundup of the coolest upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release news, we have a sorely neglected summer sci-fi thrill ride, an epic documentary about one of the world’s greatest heavy metal bands, a Bigfoot movie made by a stand-up comedian, a pair of obscure westerns starring a baby-faced Jack Nicholson, and an Oscar-winning comedy starring Dustin Hoffman in drag.

Below you’ll find info on several future home video releases complete with technical specs, release dates, and links to pre-order at Amazon. We would greatly appreciate it if you use those links to order because a small percentage of each order helps keep this website running at max power.

God Bless AmericaGod Bless America
Written and Directed by Bobcat Goldthwait
Starring Joel Murray, Tara Lynne Barr, Mackenzie Brooke Smith, and Regan Burns
Magnolia Pictures/Magnet Releasing
Release Date: May 11, 2012

The Story

Frank (Joel Murray) is a divorced insurance salesman who lives alone in a house with walls so thin he can hear the wailing of his next door neighbor’s baby day and night. His own daughter (Mackenzie Brooke Smith) wants nothing to do with him and is being increasingly spoiled by her ineffectual mother (Melinda Page Hamilton). Suffering from insomnia and migraines Frank does nothing with his life but sit in front of his television every night and subject himself to endless hours of horrid commercials, mind-numbing reality shows where pampered rich teenage girls throw profane-laden tantrums when they don’t get the car they want for their birthday, and the insane ramblings of right-wing talk show hosts (Regan Burns and Frank Conniff) who sees nothing but hatred and fear in everything and anything. One day his entire life falls apart: a misunderstood act of affection at work leads to the loss of his job, and then his doctor informs him – in between taking ill-timed calls on his cell – that the reason he’s getting migraines is because he has an inoperable brain tumor.
