Bond 25 is without a director. Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers who have been overseeing the James Bond franchise since the ’90s, and star Daniel Craig have announced that Danny Boyle will no longer be directing the next film in the series.

According to them, they split over “creative differences.” A term that is often thrown out there whenever something like this happens. In any case, the lack of any sort of development for the film was very telling. Now Wilson and Broccoli will have to start over and look at replacements if they want to get production started soon. Now that Christopher Nolan has taken himself out of the running to direct Bond 25, MGM and Eon are looking to find a director. There was a shortlist running around last year that speculated three new directors: Denis Villeneuve, David Mackenzie, and Yann Demange were all being considered. However, they no longer appear to be contenders.

Now that Daniel Craig‘s final James Bond film is in very early development, there are various distributors vying for the right to release the film here in the States. Sony had been releasing James Bond films here in the U.S. since 2006’s Casino Royale. However, their deal expired after the release of 2015’s Spectre, leaving various studios ranging from Warner Bros. to Universal battling for the rights to distribute the next film under their banner. After what seemed like a back-and-forth of yeses and noes, Sam Mendes has finalized a deal with Sony Pictures to direct the untitled James Bond 24 with Daniel Craig returning once again to star.

The announcement was made earlier today, and Skyfall screenplay writer John Logan will return to pen the script. The studio also announced October 23, 2015 release date for the UK and November 6, 2015 release dates for the US. That means that Bond 24 would be opening up against Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man. With those two pics opening up against each other, Disney will most likely switch the release date so that it won’t be in direct competition with such a heavy hitter.
