Daisy Ridley as Rey for Star Wars: The Last Jedi Vanity Fair Shoot

Director Rian Johnson is currently putting the finishing touches on Star Wars: The Last Jedi. And while we still have months before the film hits theaters, we’ve only seen one trailer and a few screen grabs.

However, yesterday’s Vanity Fair covers gave us hope that we would learn more about the film, its new characters, and where the franchise goes from here since Carrie Fisher‘s passing. Now not only did the publication deliver on releasing images taken by the great Annie Leibovitz, but new plot details have been revealed that reveal Rey (Daisy Ridley) will be pushed to her limits, Finn (John Boyega) and Rose (Kelly Marie Tran) will go on a secret mission, and how the new characters played by Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro will play a role in the highly anticipated sequel. Check it out below.

Disney In Depth: Recognizing The Next Disney Legends

Disney In Depth Banner

Two years ago, in light of the D23 Expo 2015, I named six individuals paramount to the success of The Walt Disney Company who should be named Disney Legends, the highest honor that can be bestowed. I think it is inevitable that Joe Rodhe, for instance, renowned Imagineer with those awesome earrings, who I contended should become a Disney Legend, will one day attain that honor. This prompted me to reflect on individuals within The Walt Disney Company, whether they have more recently joined the corporation or have been directly or indirectly part of its framework, who have a high chance of being recognized as Disney Legends at some point.

I had planned on publishing a column about the next set of individuals who would likely be recognized as Disney Legends, but The Walt Disney Company beat me to the punch by recently issuing a press release of its nine forthcoming Disney Legends. You’ll have to take my word that I predicted Stan Lee, Garry Marshall, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill would be named as Disney Legends this year. That said, I am excited to share my thoughts on these four, as well as five others, who will obtain this major honor at the D23 Expo.

Star Wars The Force Awakens Trailer 20

Based on very early reports, General Leia was supposed to have a significant role in the new Star Wars trilogy. But with Carrie Fisher‘s tragic passing last year, it was unclear what would happen to Leia. Originally, the plan was to use existing footage for Episode IX. However, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy says that isn’t happening. In fact, they have been forced to write the script from scratch. More on the story below.

Star Wars The Last Jedi image 09

So now that we’ve watched the first trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi a few hundred times (or more) and got a tease of the panel from Star Wars Celebration today, it’s time for some good ol’ fashioned photos.

As we all know, The Last Jedi is the second installment of a brand new trilogy, but director Rian Johnson isn’t being as secretive about the plot as his predecessor J.J. Abrams when he directed Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Of course, Johnson is being as vague as possible so not to spoil the entire thing, but he did reveal that The First Order will be making “Big Moves” that could strengthen their place within the Galactic Senate. Check out what he had to say below, plus a few new photos from the trailer that dropped this morning.
