Shortly after Ben Affleck dropped out as director of The Batman, War for the Planet of the Apes director Matt Reeves became one of the frontrunners to direct the film. | ‘The Batman’ Could Be Getting A Brand New Script
In the weeks following Ben Affleck‘s exit as director of The Batman, Warner Bros. has been scrambling to find a replacement. This is the fourth director that has left a DCEU project. Last we heard, Argo writer Chris Terrio, who also did the rewrites for Batman v Superman and worked on the script to Justice League, took a pass on the script that was penned by Affleck and Geoff Johns. Though Affleck waffled, he has said that he wouldn’t commit to directing unless the script was up to his expectations. Now that he’s out, WB may have to start with a clean slate. | ‘Justice League’: Ben Affleck Steps Into Executive Producer Role
In addition to his central role as Batman, Ben Affleck is fast becoming one of the critical creative forces behind the camera in the DC Cinematic Universe. He reportedly performed on-set rewrites of the Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice script and will also be writing the future solo Batman movie (rumored to be titled The Batman) as well as directing the project. Recently, the multi-talented Affleck earned himself another hat to wear as he has taken on the role of executive producer on next year’s Justice League Part I, in which he is also obviously returning as Batman.

The usually reliable Latino Review is reporting on some interesting new rumors surrounding Warner Brothers’ long-term plans for the expanded cinematic universe it is creating based on DC Comics’ stable of iconic superheroes. The first is that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Ben Affleck will possibly both direct and star in The Batman, a reboot of the Dark Knight franchise. His Oscar-winning Argo scribe Chris Terrio (who also worked on the scripts for Dawn of Justice and the studio’s Justice League feature — the latter of which will be released in two parts with the first tentatively scheduled for a late 2017 release and the second for the summer of 2019) will write the script for a possible November 2018 theatrical release. This would put the most popular DC character in direct conflict with Marvel Studios’ eagerly awaited Captain Marvel, which will be their first female-headed blockbuster event.
