The ultimate goal of for fans of the canceled Fox animated favorite Futurama, much like it was with Family Guy and still is for Firefly, was for the network to realize just how many passionate fans there still were out there, forcing them to give the show a second chance. Eventually this passion and perseverance paid off with four direct-to-DVD movies to test the waters (something they should try with Firefly) and the announcement that 26 brand new episodes would be airing on Comedy Central. 13 of these episodes have already run, bringing in around 2 million viewers per episode, and the second wave of that initial renewal is set to debut in June.

With over 10 million fans on Facebook, the worry was that not nearly as many fans were watching the show as there should be and naturally there was fear that these final 13 episodes would be the last we ever saw of Futurama. But now we can chalk that off to paranoia — it’s been announced that 26 MORE episodes have been ordered, keeping fans of the show set until 2013.

A little over a week ago, the first clip for The Futurama Holiday Spectacular was released online. Since then, numerous other clips have followed in an effort to get people prepared to watch the special, which airs tonight at 10pm EST on Comedy Central.

Being the awesome friend we are, we just wanted to take the opportunity to remind all of you Futurama fanatics one more time so that no one misses it. We’re in the middle of a long wait between the end of the last season and the start of the next one, so this is the last new stuff we’ll get until sometime next year. For those of you who didn’t get the memo, those 26 brand new episodes that Comedy Central ordered, making all of our hopes and dreams come true, were ultimately split up into two seasons. We still twitch with anxiety hoping that many more new seasons will come, but that’s all still up in the air and only tuning in to specials like this can help!

If you can’t wait until tonight, you can head on over to the other side now to see the other preview clips that were released recently. And again, The Futurama Holiday Spectacular airs tonight at 10pm EST on Comedy Central — don’t miss it!
