Most Anticipated Films of 2015 - Avengers: Age Of Ultron Ultron

Every year, thousands of movies hit theater screens around the world and I’m usually only able to catch a handful during their entire theatrical run. Therefore, I have to be pretty damn selective when it comes to what I choose to spend that precious Fandango gift card I received for Christmas on to see. With that in mind, I have assembled a list of the 20 films that are most likely to chip away at the obsidian monolith that is my movie ticket budget.

As you may have already noticed, I took the subheading of this article from a quote often attributed to Terminator 2: Judgment Day: “The future is not set. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves.” I suppose that’s my pretentious way of suggesting that one or more of the films on this list could turn out to be complete wastes of time, but we won’t know for sure until they’re released theatrically in the coming months.

Also, the release dates noted in the article are correct as of press time, but are subject to change.

New ‘Crimson Peak’ Images: Tom Hiddleston Isn’t The Only Eye Candy In The Film

Crimson Peak Hero Skull crest

Crimson Peak from director Guillermo del Toro is easily one of my most anticipated movies of 2015. We saw a sneak peek of the film during the Legendary Panel at Comic-Con last year, but that was so long ago, the footage is almost forgotten. While we wait for a trailer to appear, Empire has released a couple of images before the film’s Halloween season release.

Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston, Mia Wasikowska, and Charlie Hunnam star in the film that puts a gothic twist on love and temptation. While Hiddleston may have eye-catching appeal, there is something else in the images that is more incredible and striking to look at than the actor. Hit the jump to check them out.

Crimson Peak Hero Skull crest

The first image from Hellboy and Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro‘s much-anticipated upcoming gothic horror flick Crimson Peak has found its way online.

The image is simple, showing star Jessica Chastain in costume standing on some stairs, but it gives you a good idea of the style of the movie and that’s something that will be exciting for fans of the horror genre. Del Toro has described the movie as much closer to his Spanish-language films such as The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth—arguably his two best works to date—something he hasn’t been able to do in his English-language titles.

You can read more about the movie and check out the first image below.

Guillermo del Toro at the Crimson Peak Gothic Gallery

Nerdist News’ Jessica Chobot moderated Legendary Pictures’ San Diego Comic-Con Hall H panel on Friday and introduced Guillermo del Toro, who premiered the teaser trailer for his gothic horror film Crimson Peak, starring Mia Wasikowska, Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Hunnam, and Jessica Chastain.

Chobot asked what attracted del Toro to return to the world of gothic horror. Del Toro said he wanted to make a movie that blended two sides of his personality, the painterly style of his Spanish-language films and the FX heavy, action side of films like Hellboy. When Universal offered him Crimson Peak, he thought it was a perfect opportunity to jump back into the genre. He encouraged everyone to visit the Crimson Peak experience at the Legendary booth at SDCC, describing it as “fucking awesome.” He apologised that he didn’t bring any stars with him, as the film is still in an early stage of production, but promised that next year at SDCC, he’ll bring the whole cast, including “Tom fucking Hiddleston,” whom he described as “incredibly nice.”

Guillermo del Toro at the Crimson Peak Gothic Gallery

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, part of Legendary’s Guillermo del Toro experience was an immersive walkthrough down a gothic corridor populated with costumes and props from the sets of del Toro’s 2015 Victorian horror film, Crimson Peak. Del Toro himself was on hand on Wednesday night to personally guide us through — you can see video of this here below, along with some photos.

During the guided walkthrough, del Toro pointed out the painstaking attention to detail given to creating the ultimate spook house replica, some of which can be seen in the video below. Wood moldings were deliberately cut to appear blurry, hiding the shapes of bodies in their negative space, butterfly motifs are embedded everywhere within the costumes and props. The family crest hides a skull when seen in the right light. Even the wallpaper itself hides the word “˜fear’ in its repeating pattern. For the actual film shoot, a three-story high, fully-functional house was built on a soundstage, and most of the special effects were done in-camera, shot on stage as practical effects.
