A party bag of new images from some big time new movies have been released all over the ‘net today. The images are basically just some sneaky behind the scenes shots of filming, but they’re our very first look at these movies, which makes them pretty exciting. There’s also a new image of Sam Worthington from Louis Leterrier‘s Clash of the Titans from Empire, which you can see at right! The first movie we’re getting our first good look at is The Green Hornet. Splash News has a collection of pictures from filming, and they show writer/producer/star Seth Rogen as the Hornet himself, along with sidekick Kato, played by Jay Chou. | Another Live-Action ‘Halo’ Video Proves A Movie Can Work |
|
Last month, we learned that Steven Spielberg himself was in negotiations to pick up the dead Halo movie project and develop it himself (Read: A Beacon Of Hope Emerges For The D.O.A. “˜Halo’ Movie & Its Name Is Steven Spielberg). Whether this means the movie will ever finally be made or not remains to be seen, but it is exciting for those who are dying to see this happen. We first got a glimpse of what a movie version of the mega-hit game would look like when District 9 director Neil Blomkamp filmed his own live-action version as a promo for Halo 3, but unfortunately, a huge estimated movie budget killed that project off. Now, fittingly, for the release of the spinoff game Halo ODST, a new director in Rupert Sanders has made yet another live-action promo, and it looks pretty fantastic. Blomkamp proved that a budget was really no issue if you spend your money wisely — he made District 9 look like it cost $115 Million when in fact it only ran $30 Million. Before Spielberg got involved, Blomkamp said that if the Halo movie did indeed come back to his table he would probably turn it down, so the question became “Who else could do it?” This is a question that apparently Rupert Sanders thinks he has the answer to. Click on over to see both Blomkamp and Sanders’ live-action Halo shorts, and choose who you would rather helm the movie if it ever happens.

District 9
Directed by Neill Blomkamp
Starring Sharlto Copley, Nathalie Boltt, Jason Cope, John Sumner, Sylvaine Strike
Rated R
Release date: August 14, 2009 District 9 is the cinematic find of the year and signals the arrival of a bold new talent in the realm of visionary filmmaking. Director Neill Blomkamp, a native of South Africa expanding on his earlier short film Alive in Joburg, has given us a wondrous creation that merges the cautionary science fiction cinema of the 1950’s, the satirical scarefests of the 1970’s, and the imaginative cross-genre gross-outs of the 1980’s into one audacious and eerily thought-provoking package. Best of all he accomplished this on a budget most so-called “event films” cranked out from the Hollywood sweat shop would have blown on an overabundance of computer-generated imagery and slumming big name stars. District 9 is a marvel of modern storytelling. In 1982, a city-sized spacecraft appeared in the airspace over Johannesburg, South Africa. Authorities forced their way into the craft and found a large number of alien creatures slowly dying. The aliens were transported from their ship to Johannesburg where a government organization known as MNU established a special camp for the aliens called District 9. The years passed as MNU attempted to figure out how best to exploit these new visitors, now being referred to as “prawns” because of their strange appearance, including trying to learn how to operate their weaponry. In the years since the aliens’ arrival, District 9 has devolved into a slum where crime, poverty, drugs, and prostitution run rampant, mostly due to Nigerian gangs lorded over by the powerful gangster Fundiswa Mhlanga (Mandla Gaduka) and the aliens are forced to trade practically everything they own in exchange for tiniest of Earth-manufactured goods.

| Why Come In Peace? 7 Awesome Alien Kills In Film |
|
District 9, the new film from director Neill Blomkamp and produced by Peter Jackson, is being released this Friday, August 14, 2009. With a nice little R-rating, there’s sure to be some heavy human/alien violence going down. In District 9, the aliens supposedly come in peace, but with most alien science fiction movies, that’s usually not the case. Quite the opposite, in fact. So, in celebration of this new first-contact humans-meet-aliens film that’s getting rave reviews from all who’ve see it so far, we’ve decided to concoct a list of some of the most awesome scenes of aliens killing humans in film. Obviously, there’s been thousands of instances where an alien takes out a human in movies, so finding some of the more outstanding examples was not an easy task. Basically, the movies selected took a death and went a step further…or sometimes, a couple of steps further. Whether the kill is just ultra-violent, or if it’s completely and disgustingly unique, if it makes viewers cringe when it happens, then it’s worthy of this list. Hopefully we’ve managed to feature some of the elite members of this category. So without further delay, if you’re not one of the squeamish, click on over and check out our 7 Awesome Alien Kills In Film!
