| DreamWorks Animation Cuts 500 Jobs; Will Release Two Films A Year
Running an animation studio like DreamWorks Animation is tough, especially when your competition consists of Disney, Pixar (which is Disney-owned), Illumination, and Laika. Since Paramount cut its ties with DreamWorks in favor of distributing their own animation projects, Fox has picked up their film slate. But the movies are performing below expectations at the box office, and now the studio that brought us successful multiple Oscar and Golden Globe winning and nominated franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How To Train Your Dragon has been forced to cut 500 jobs across all divisions and locations, and will be closing its PDI offices in Redwood City, CA. | Scarlett Johansson To Star In ‘Ghost In The Shell’ Movie
Last we heard The Wolf of Wall Street star and future Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie, was in talks to star in DreamWorks Pictures’ upcoming live-action adaptation of the animated movie Ghost in the Shell, which is based on the popular Japanese manga of the same name. That casting ultimately did not work out. Now comes word that DreamWorks finally has their star locked in. It’s being reported that The Avengers and Lucy star Scarlett Johansson has signed on for the movie, which is set to be directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman).

| SDCC 2014: DreamWorks Animation Panel With Benedict Cumberbatch (Photos)
Thursday’s San Diego Comic-Con kicked off with a presentation by DreamWorks Animation in the convention center’s hallowed Hall H. Ferguson opened with a joke about how SDCC is the weekend all domestic cats dread as their owners dress up in weird costumes and leave them alone for the weekend. He also mentioned that he’s moderating the panel because he’s “frightened of Jeffrey Katzenberg” and of course due to his appearances in the How to Train Your Dragon films. He then introduced a trailer for the upcoming film Home. First was the panel for Home with director Tim Johnson, and voice actor Jim Parsons (from The Big Bang Theory). Johnson mentioned that the film is still six months away from finishing and that he first began the project two and a half years ago upon reading the book the film’s based on, The True Meaning of Smekday by Adam Rex

| Steven Spielberg and Melissa Mathison Reunite To Adapt Roald Dahl’s Classic ‘The BFG’
The last time mega-famous filmmaker Steven Spielberg and screenwriter Melissa Mathison collaborated on a project (besides Mathison’s uncredited work on the director’s segment of Twilight Zone: The Movie), the result was the record-smashing family fantasy classic E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. Thirty-two years following the release of the film that popularized Reese’s Pieces and airborne bike riding, Spielberg and Mathison are getting together to adapt Roald Dahl‘s 1982 children’s book The BFG for the big screen.

| ‘Need For Speed’ Trailer: Aaron Paul Makes The Switch From Blue Sky To Fast Cars
Aaron Paul‘s time as Jesse Pinkman comes to a dramatic conclusion when Breaking Bad airs its series finale this Sunday. While there is very little chance of seeing the same character on the Breaking Bad Saul Goodman spinoff, we’ll still get to see more of Paul as the actor is making the jump from the small screen to the big screen. The actor will star in next year’s big screen adaptation of Need For Speed, based on the popular video game of the same name. Check out the first trailer after the jump.
